    FIFA: Just Soccer?

    How soccer is more

Recently, the 2014 World Cup ended, Go Deutschland! This game though, is it something more than just 90 minutes of a ball being passed around? Most Definitely!

The World Cup, especially the 2014 World Cup, proves how it can bring countries together and bring the world to a more unified place. Take the American team for instance, even the coach said that we, as I am an American, would not win; and we agreed completely. Yet, despite this knowledge, bars, houses, and restaurants would become packed at game time. Friends, family, co-workers, and even complete strangers would come together with jerseys on, faces painted, and beers in hand to chant U.S.A. For those 90 minutes, political ideals, money problems, and many other problems were forgotten. That is a lot to say about Americans and their soccer, seeing as how soccer is about as popular as a dead fish.

America is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to countries coming together to cheer on their team and fellow citizens. All countries did this. What makes this unique is how this sport, this life style brought the world together. For those precious weeks wars and hurt in the world was reported less and less. People heard positive news; people didn't want to talk about the possibility of a WWIII. They wanted to hear how their team was doing and which country was putting the hurt on other countries. By creating a 90 minute sport, the world came to one of those unique points in its life, where the main point wasn't conquering and making money, but was at peace and sharing in the life experience of love for a game and appreciation for each other.
