Who doesn’t love harassing neighbors and friends with various reading materials?

1. You get to practice your elevator pitch skills.

By the end of your first week, you’ll be able to sell a used car to anyone.

2. You get to be competitive against the other campaign.

The people on the other campaign might be good people - who knows? All you know is that you want your candidate to win. Not only win, you want your candidate to crush the competition.

3. Campaign food.

Pizza, chips, Jimmy Johns, donuts, coffee, cookies… it’s basically a college dream diet, but you can justify it by actually working.

4. You get to be the “knowledgeable person” come Election Day.

Your friends and family may not be entirely sure of what you actually do. What they do know is that you do something with politics, so tell them how and for what candidate to vote.

5. You gain “crazy campaigning” stories.

Conspiracy theorists, anarchists, overly-excited libertarians… these people are goldmines of comedic anecdotes you can share at Thanksgiving Dinner.

6. You will develop that one “campaign best friend.”

You will canvas together, you will phone bank together, you will do data entry together… hell, you’ll probably even end up passing out in the campaign office together. For that campaign, you two will be inseparable.

7. Plus you’ll gain dozens of campaign acquaintances.

You’ll throw their numbers into your phone in case you need more yard signs or pamphlets when canvassing. Post-campaign season, you’ll go through your contacts and have this reaction.

8. You can guilt your friends/family into voting.

Convincing people you know to vote is one of the most challenging tasks someone can take on - do so wisely.

Seriously, there’s nothing more satisfying than informing your candidate that you have a check for him/her and it’s worth more than $5.

You’re just so good that they can’t believe it. Let’s be real, you flew through that neighborhood because no one answered the door, but he/she doesn’t need to know that for now. Soak in the praise!

13. Being able to defend your candidate when a family member/friend trashes him/her.

You’ve worked with your candidate. You’ve talked to him/her for months. He/She has even bought you Starbucks. He/She is the best person for the job and you know the facts by heart. You’re a force to be reckoned with - use the power wisely.
