A Specimen Processor is defined as a person that comes into contact with all of the samples that come through the Lab.

1. The education requires high school diploma or GED, you may obtain a high degree as well (associate and or bachelor).

2. The Specimen Processor has to make sure that the name, birthday, NRN number (any patient that comes inside this hospital is assigned this number), has to match and is to be maintain even when this patient has left, they may come back to learn their results. (In other words, they have to make sure that the paper work and the specimen matches and that recorded stays will kept.

3. A processer also has to know what type of test (some test can be run on urine, blood, spinal fluid), test name, turnaround time, and how much the test will cost if it were to be initiated.

4. This is a quote from a Specimen Processor that I had interviewed earlier before this article, “If you are a squeamish person you might want to have couple of second thoughts. Because there are a lot of bodily specimens that we have to deal with, like blood, bloody body parts and other bodily fluids that you might not want to deal with on a daily basis.”

5. There is no room for error in this medical field.

6. The computer is one of the machines that a Specimen Processor uses on a daily bases. (So if you are not good at inputting information inside of a computer then this job is not for you).
