10 Indisputable Reasons Why Geeky Is The Most Fun Thing To Be

Yes, nerd/geek (not interchangeable, but both applicable to this post) culture is pretty widely accepted these days, but in case you aren't yet on the comic book loving, fanfiction writing, taping everything aired on SyFy and BBC train, here are a few reasons why you are so-o-o missing out.

1. You Get to Love Things Like You've Never Loved Things Before

In our opinion, it is totally acceptable to be obsessed with things. In fact, it's totally acceptable to be obsessed with many things, as many as you want (as long as you reference them correctly). Get pee in your pants excited for that Christmas Special. Camp out in line for days to get your sweet, sweet comic signed by its creator. Stay up all night finishing the next installment of your fan-fiction novel. We don't judge here. In fact, we think you're awesome.

2. We Have Costumes

Yep, you heard me right. COSTUMES. Is it Halloween? Nope. And as a result, the rest of the world is currently wearing their boring, run of the mill, everyday outfits. But not us! No matter what day it is, you can find us wearing our Spiderman masks, our Tardis dresses, our Hobbit-feet slippers, pretty much whatever we want. Because we don't have to wait for Halloween to dress all crazy-awesome. At the very least, we are probably going to sleep tonight in our Batman pajamas. Jealous? You should be.

3. We Are Significantly Less Concerned with Outside Perceptions

Do we think we are perfect? No. Are we completely free of self-esteem issues? Of course not. But there is way more to us than the superficial, and we know it. We've dealt with things like rejection, ridicule, tripping over our own feet in public, etc. since the dawn of time, and as a result we know how to deal with negativity. And guess what? WE GIVE ZERO F*CKS. You think I eat too many doritos? Go away. You think my glasses make me look ridiculous? I think you're GPA makes you look ridiculous. You don't want to play WOW with me later? I hardly think I invited you. Of course you don't have to be mean about it, but kick that negativity to the curb, girl (or guy). You're with us now.

Let's just say that we aren't your typical pack of guys and gals. Our minds are always concocting things, trying to think of new things, and they have been trained through years of awesome television, books, and movies to be imaginative. We know that the sky is the limit, nothing is impossible, and the universe is a vast and mysterious place. In any case, you will never be bored.

7. We Don't Care If You Know What You Are Talking About

While I am certain that you are a genius, and make all the right decisions all the time, we don't judge you for that in-between part. The part when you are figuring stuff out and don't know which way is up. In general, we are almost always in that place. We spend days, months, even years trying to figure things out. How to get a formula to come out right, how to get our computer program to do what it's supposed to do even half the time, how to explain something complicated without sounding like a complete ass. No matter what it is you're muddling through, we will muddle through it with you.

8. We Are Exceedingly Loyal

Even if you've only seen a movie or two with geek-like themes, it's pretty easy to figure out that we will do anything for our friends. A lot of the time we were there for each other when no one else was, and nothing breeds a lasting bond like standing by a person when they thought they were going to be standing alone. A friend of one of us is a friend to all of us, and we mate for life here, folks. (Not actual mate, but mate like friends. Don't be gross.)

9. We May Write About War and Death, but We Are A Peaceful People

We don't want to hurt anyone here...we just want to hang out play Mario Party together. We are all misfits of some type, and we know it. We are the boy with the weird hair, or the girl with the Harry Potter glasses, the kid who sat in the back of the class so he could doodle and the kid who sat in the front of the class so she could soak up all the Early English Literature in the syllabus! We came together because no one else would take us, and through that we all found our home. We want everyone to feel accepted, and let their freak flags fly!

10. We Are Probably Gonna Save The World Someday

It's no secret that, as humans, we have a lot to deal with these days. Someday soon the world is going to need a hero, and who knows more about saving mankind than those of us who spend hours a day pouring over comics filled with just that? Batman taught us that it isn't about the recognition, it's about doing the right thing. Spiderman taught us that quips are a great way to keep the mood light when facing certain death. Superman taught us that you don't have to be part of something to try and save it, and Iron Man taught us that you don't have to be super-human to be a superhero. Granted, you do need to be a genius and have lots of money, but that's not the point. The point is, we have a job to do, and that job is to do something positive with our time. We could definitely use your help.
