You'll tear through this book, devouring Maggie's foot-in-mouth decisions quicker than Maggie moves through boyfriends. It's definitely an easy read that's engaging enough to finish on your commute to work, or down by the beach. You'll finish the story with a sense of relief and longing for a caravan.

    2. I Choose Elena by Lucia Osborne-Crowle

    This is one of those pieces that will capture you from the first sentence and have you frantically flipping through the pages. It's a work of non-fiction and, don't worry, I can already hear the fiction lovers out there snarling at their screens, but I kid you not, this book will have you glued to its pages.

    In this quick read, Osborne-Crowley recounts the rape and assault she experienced when she was only 15. She goes on to detail how it affected her entire life and potentially contributed to illnesses she still suffers today.

    Far from being a depressive read, you're left with a sense of awe and respect towards the author and her ability to write such a painful and raw truth. The last line — "Acceptance is a small, quiet room" — will stick with you long after you've finished the book.

    Osborne-Crowley may have been born in London, but because she grew up in Brisbane and Sydney — Australia is laying a claim. This dynamite Aussie author has appeared in many publications, despite this being her first book. She's written for the Lifted Brow, Meanjin and the Sunday Times. In fact, this book is based on the essay she wrote for the Lifted Brow. She's also reported for ABC News, GQ Australia and the Wall Street Journal.

    Her second novel is slated to appear late 2020.

    3. The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld

    Sometimes it's hard to find a fiction book that just picks you up and sweeps you off your feet, especially when no one has any time to read anymore. This book is captivating, no matter when or where you manage to squeeze your reading in.

    She is unflinchingly honest about the thoughts she harbours against her own body and doesn't try to hide when she's feeling negative about herself.

    On another level, she wonders why women follow this inane quest to be thin and how we often tie it to our own self-worth. I don't think there's any non-fiction work I've connected with so instantly and deeply. Its ending inspires me to commit to being kinder to myself and to love all the things my body can do for me.
