Perks Of Being An Arts And Science Ambassador!

These are just a few of the reasons why I love being an ambassador and why I hope you'll consider joining us!

1. Awesome interview for the position!

The director and student co-coordinators of the program thought of tons of cool questions to ask you. Trust me, the interview is actually supper fun!

2. Explore the diversity of UK

There are students from every type of background at UK and you learn to appreciate that more and more each and every day you spend with them. We have ambassadors across all majors and with a very different set of interests and it's getting to know that about each person, that's one of the best parts of the journey!

3. Free Food

Not going to lie, every event you work for the college pretty much guarantees you a meal or at least hella snacks! Plus social events come with free food and you get paid for you food at preview nights!

4. Bus rides can be used as guilt free nap time

If you can knock out anywhere, you have a free pass to sleep without feeling guilty about that 3 hour nap!

5. Free swag

As mentioned above, all of the events will offer free stuff. Sometimes it might be shirts, but usually there is at least a promo cup in there for you. Plus the ambassador program and the college of Arts and Sciences provides you with a couple of pretty cool apparel items to flaunt around campus.

6. Network with the Best and Brightest of UK students

Everyone in this group is hand selected because of their achievements and already flawless resumes, so meeting the director of a program or a student body senator is likely! Since they know you are equally as impressive and driven, you will have an easy way to get plugged into their organization or learn for them!

7. The Dean knows YOUR name

Being an ambassador is a hard earned privilege and Dean Kornbluh takes notice! He's a guest speaker in class and frequently shows up to our events. With only a handful of us, it's pretty easy to get him to remember who you are. If you impressive him enough, you just might be able to snag a letter of rec.

8. Faculty think you’re extra impressive

Even when you skip their class for a preview night! When you show them that excuse note signed by a retention specialist in the college (our main man, Will Bickers!) they automatically get the urge to fist bump you.

9. Counsel upcoming college freshman on life at UK

Preview Nights are amazing when you are swarmed with interested students and you get to tell them all about what path you took to get to where you are today. It's a throwback to talk about the SAT, applying for scholarships, campus tours, and the college application process with them. But it's so much fun telling them how to succeed in general chemistry or how to set up a study schedule. A little part of you will feel like a kid again!

10. Meet super important people!

Working all the events for ambassadors definitely gets you plugged into a good place with college of A&S faculty, but the community involvement is pretty great as well! You can meet the ambassadors from other colleges at UK and even make friends with their directors. You never know where great networking like that can lead!

11. Explore new places!

Preview nights take you to a whole new world. Mostly metaphorical – but if you've never visited downtown Atlanta or seen the night lights of Chicago, this might just be your easy shot for a free round trip!

12. Try new things and learn more than you could imagine!

The ambassador program pushes you to accomplish more and to dig deep when talking to people about UK and your experiences. It teaches you how to answer tough questions outside of a professional interview and more importantly, shows you just a little more about how you do you.

13. Build up your resume!

This is an experience like no other and internships, scholarship offices and selective Grad or Professional schools will take notice. Plus, as mentioned above, it can snag some pretty cool letters of recommendation.

14. Meet tons of new freshman!

Preview Nights are focused on meeting students interested in coming to UK, but Ambassadors also attend the Dean's List reception, A&S College Day, The Student Involvement Fair and so many other events where freshman are unsure and have questions! You get to help them forge their path at UK, and they remember you as that "impressive overachiever" down the line!

15. Brag on yourself and feel important!

When high schoolers and their parents ask for your contact info because they are literally so impressed with your heavy course load, extracurricular involvement, how you are a triple major, got cool internships, have study abroad stories and research publications; you pretty much feel like a rock star! Not to mention, impressive people make UK look really good!

16. Members Privilege on all the campus events!

Like mentioned above, the group is very diverse and super impressive! Ambassadors are involved in other organizations across campus and we know each of our fellow ambassadors is just as impressive as we are. So, when a leadership role is up for grabs, we are the first to share it with our ambassador buds!

17. GPA BOOST!

Chances are, if you want to become an ambassador, you are probably pretty driven and focused on academics. With a requirement of 3.0, you have worked pretty hard; but who doesn't love a nice 1 credit hour A for just meeting ambassador requirements?
