Is This The Answer To The Refugee Crisis?

Two privately owned Greek islands are being eyed up by Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris...

Sawiris is seeking permission from the Greek government to carry out his plans to turn one of these islands into a safe haven for 100,000 to 200,000 refugees where they would live and work.

"I'll make a small port or marina for the boats to land there. I'll employ the people to build their own homes, their schools, a hospital, a university, a hotel," says Sawiris.

Sawiris is working with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and fellow business men to make his dream of "Aylan Island" a reality. By turning his idea into an investable project Sawiris is hoping he will receive more donations as any money contributed would make the donor partner in the island and the project.

Over 4 million Syrians are now living in camps in neighbouring countries. If the plan goes ahead, how they would be selected to live on the island is as yet unclear.
