10 Overlooked Husband Worthy Athletes: NBA Edition

Athletes are seen in this special light as gods of sports, but they’re normal people like us. They just happen to be insanely talented at their respective sports.

Posted on

The things athletes do off the court are disregarded as part of who they really are. I decided to look into arrest records, charities they work with, their athletic ability and obviously looks to decide which athletes are being overlooked as "husband-worthy".

1. Blake Griffin

LA Clippers #32

Born: March 16, 1989 (age 25)

College: University of Oklahoma

Salary 2014: 17.67 Million USD

Other than the fact that this half African American half white perfect mix of a man is an insane basketball player, Griffin has also shown interest in comedy. While he’s still a youngin’ at just 25 years old, Griffin has already started a fundraiser called Dunking for Dollars. Every time this sexy stud makes a dunk during the NBA season, he donates $100 towards childhood obesity. So attractive, athletic, funny and charitable, totally husband worthy.

2. Dwayne Wade

Miami Heat #3

Born: January 17, 1982 (age 32)

College: Marquette College

Salary 2014: 18.67 Million USD

Since D-Wade just married the lovely Gabrielle Union in 2014, he clearly belongs on this list. He has three beautiful children and shows his support for the city of Miami every chance he gets. I mean, the Dade County is famously called Wade County in this man’s honor. He runs the Wade’s World Foundation, which provides support for community-based organizations that promote education, health and social skills for children in at-risk situations. He also shows interests in fashion, rocking a seriously impressive sneaker collection to every game.

3. Chris Paul

LA Clippers #3

Born: May 6, 1985 (age 25)

College: Wake Forest

Salary 2014: 18.09 Million USD

Are we ready for this? Chris Paul loves bowling and actually owns a franchise in the Professional Bowling Association League. Who would’ve guessed?! He is also known for being super charitable, winning the NBA’s Community Assist Award two years in a row. You may also recognize him from his State Farm commercials with his “twin” Cliff Paul. He’s a well-rounded guy with a smile that can be seen for miles. How could a person not fall for this guy?

4. Kevin Love

Cleveland Cavaliers #0

Born: September 7, 1988 (age 26)

College: University of California, Los Angeles

Salary 2014: 15.72 Million USD

This 26-year-old power forward has been showing his skills this season on and off the court. Love is easy on the eyes and his last name suits him perfectly. In 2009, he became the first NBA player to join the Hoops for St. Jude charity program benefitting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It’s hard not to love Kevin Love.

5. Russell Westbrook

Oklahoma City Thunder #0

Born: November 12, 1988 (age 26)

College: University of California, Los Angeles

Salary 2014: 15.72 Million USD

Westbrook is known for his outlandish style off the court, even being called a fashion icon. He launched a clothing line with Barneys called Westbrook XO, and who doesn’t love Barneys, am I right? He has had a rough season so far, injuring himself recently, but you could totally be the one to rehabilitate him, if you know what I mean.

6. Chandler Parsons

Dallas Mavericks #25

Born: October 25, 1988 (age 26)

College: University of Florida

Salary 2014: 15.36 Million USD

Parsons is not only a looker on the court, but a talented ball player as well. His piercing eyes entrance all the ladies. But on top of his looks, he also participates in Dunks for Donation, which benefited the foundation Sustainable Surf, which protects the ocean. Who doesn’t love a guy who’s passionate about saving our planet?

7. Shabazz Napier

Miami Heat #13

Born: July 14, 1991 (age 23)

College: University of Connecticut

Salary: 1.26 Million USD

Newcomer to the Miami Heat, Napier is already being talked about as one to be watched. Coming from UConn, Napier had two national championships in 2011 and 2014. He may be young at just 23-years-old, but give him some time to learn from D-Wade and he’ll be a perfect gentleman.

8. Doug McDermott

Chicago Bulls #3

Born: January 3, 1992 (age 22)

College: Creighton University

Salary: 2.39 Million USD

With a nickname like Doug McBuckets, you know this guys got game. McDermott led the nation in field goals two seasons in a row, which is where the nickname came from. Can’t you imagine wearing that nickname on a Bulls jersey? I could get used to that.

9. Pau Gasol

Chicago Bulls #16

Born: July 6, 1980 (age 34)

Drafted from Spain in 2001.

Salary: 19.29 Million USD

This handsome Spain born player works with Hoops for St. Jude charity program, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He also speaks five languages, which includes Catalan, Spanish, English, French and Italian. You probably won’t get tired of hearing him say you’re beautiful in all five languages anytime soon.

10. LeBron James

Cleveland Cavaliers #23

Born: December 30, 1984 (age 29)

Drafted to NBA in 2003 by the Cavs.

Salary: 19.07 Million USD

LeBron James is a worldwide name that everyone loves to hear. He is not only a superstar on the court, with two championships with the Miami Heat, but he shows his skills off the court as well. He supports the After-School All-Stars Foundation, as well as the Boys & Girls Club of America and Children’s Defense Fund. He recently returned to his hometown to bring home a championship for the Cavs. Loyalty is a definitely a husband-worthy attribute.
