Eight Types Of People You See On The Subway

We may come across a handful of weirdos when your travels take you below ground, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

1. The Stranger you see EVERY SINGLE DAY

Maybe they have the same route to work as you. Maybe they are stalking you. Either way, you see them just about every day, you meet eyes, and then you continue to keep to yourself.

2. The Tourists

Talents include but are not limited to speaking loudly in another language, stopping on the middle of the platform to unfold their giant paper map, and awkwardly learning over you to read the map of the wall of the subway car. Usually travel in packs. Sometimes with small children.

3. The Questionably Insane Person

Maybe they are screaming profanity, maybe they are whispering voodoo prayers in the corner, either way, we have questioned ourselves on whether or not you should get up and move because you are unsure if the crazy is going to hug you or pull a knife on you.

4. The Loud Talker

You didn't want to know the details of said person's hook-up history their freshman year of college, but somehow between 14th street and 34th street you've already been scarred with the majority of the gritty details.

5. The Hot Man in the Suit

Don't be ashamed if you envisioned more than once what may lie beneath that perfectly tailored button up and the Double-Windsor knotted tie. We have all had fantasies that the subway car will jerk forward and you will fall gracefully into his lap as your eyes meet. You try to lock eyes with him but he gets off at the next station. Maybe he was mistaking your smoldering look for a serial killer look. Either way, life is not a movie and you aren't meeting your husband in a subway car. Sigh.

6. The Screaming Baby

If you haven't tried playing peek-a-boo with a strangers child on a subway you don't know what you're missing. You get the joys of playing with a cute kids for 5 minutes, and they you get to leave and not have to worry about the poopy diaper the kid was crying about in the first place.

7. America's Best Dance Crew

"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE AND HAPPY MONDAY! WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL PERFORMANCE FOR YA'LL!"

8. The Sleeping Beauty

You watched it happen. Their head bobbed up and down as they forced the urge to take just a little nap. Once they fall asleep it is often followed by panic the next time the subway car comes to a stop. You see their face in panic, fearing that they may have ended up all the way in Inwood or the Bronx and then relief when they realize they only had traveled 2 stops.

But no matter how many weirdos you come across, it is still the most efficient way to get around the best city in the world.
