TransCanada's Idiotic Tweet Got Shut Down

Environmental Canadians point out the stupidity in burying pipelines to "help" the environment

TransCanada put out a Tweet yesterday claiming that it would be environmentally friendly to bury pipelines underground

We help protect the environment by burying pipelines below riverbeds, brooks and streams. http://t.co/KfGU9tdRD3 #KXL

Of course by "pipelines" they mean oil pipelines, carrying large amounts of oil underwater and underground. The Keystone XL Pipeline (#kxl) is an American/Canadian pipeline project that is mentioned in many of their Tweets. The project came under fire recently when it was reported that farmers were being stripped of their land in order to continue with this project.

Twitter wasn't having any of it.

@TransCanada were you dropped on your head as a child?

Some mastered the art of saracasm

.@TransCanada good thinking! It's just like how I keep my house clean by filling it with mud-drenched dogs.

@al_lenferna @ChahtaSmmr @TransCanada Lead paint chips make an amazing garnish for salads and deserts!

@TransCanada Thanks for the inspiration! Can I also protect children by adding mercury & arsenic to their food? Pls send more helpful tips.

Some people asked the really important questions

Has @TheOnion taken over @TransCanada twitter account? #nokxl

@TransCanada you must be raging sociopaths to tweet something like this. Do you protect your house by setting it on fire?

.@TransCanada why not bury them under schools and hospitals too? That would probably be even safer.

But mostly, those that responded had sound advice

@TransCanada Try protecting the environment by no longer dealing in tar sands and carbon emissions.

@TransCanada Here's a helpful tip: Stop breathing your tar sands fumes. #kxl

To combat the backlash, TransCanada has pinned a Tweet to the top of their feed, explaining that they're not to blame for oil issues

Keeping the facts straight: We build #energy infrastructure – we don’t produce, own or refine oil. #KXL

Twitter's not having any of that, either

.@TransCanada "I was holding the bag, I wasn't the one stealing and filling up the bag!" • #Greenwashing

@TransCanada That's what the mules that transport heroin say.

@TransCanada Well, as long as you're only the get-away driver I don't see any problems. They always get let off... #nokxl #KXL

@TransCanada "We don't pull the trigger. We just hand out the gun for the one we know will do it"

Good luck out there, Twitter Environmentalists.
