The Top 5 "Lost" Animated Pilots

No not "LOST: The animated Series," though that sounds like fun. This is our list of our favorite "rarely seen" animated pilots. Some went on to become iconic series, and some...well...stayed "lost."

    1. Meet The...FLAGSTONES?

The Flintstones were originally called “THE FLAGSTONES” and in this rare pilot you can see that the characters were virtually fully formed with the exception of BETTY who looks rather unkempt. Listen closely to FRED and BARNEY’s voices, both performed here by DAWS BUTLER. It’s especially jarring to hear a different voice bellowing out of FRED’s mouth than the one you are used to.

The name was changed when "Hi and Lois" creator threatened legal action, since his character's surnames was "Flagston."

    2. Ex-X-Men

Sure most of you remember the X-Men cartoon from the 90′s but how many of you remember the rare X-MEN pilot from 1989? “PRYDE of the X-MEN” featured some pretty snazzy animation and while it was incredibly exciting for comic fans it never made it past the pilot. Sadly, we didn’t get an on going X-MEN series until 1992.

But Stan Lee proves one again that he is an awful, awful voice narrator.

    3. Get LOST...in this SPACE.

This pilot was based on the successful series from the 60's, "Lost in Space," and only aired once as part of "The Saturday Superstar Movie." This one may need to stay "Lost."

    4. Spongebob as the voice of PLASTIC MAN?

Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network commissioned this Plastic Man television pilot episode "Puddle Trouble" in 2006. Produced by Andy Suriano and Tom Kenny, and designed and storyboarded by Stephen DeStefano. Tom Kenny also performed the voice of Plastic Man in the program. Cartoon Network decided not to pick up Plastic Man as a series and has never aired the episode. "Puddle Trouble" has been released on the Plastic Man: The Complete Collection DVD set.

    5. Animated BUFFY??

    BUFFY? ANIMATED?? YES!!

From Wikipedia description: Buffy the Animated Series is an animated television series concept based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer created by Joss Whedon. Initially greenlit by 20th Century Fox in 2002, it went ultimately unproduced and unaired when no network was willing to buy the series. The series would have taken place in the middle of Buffy season 1, as writer Jeph Loeb described the continuity as "Episode 7.5"
