19 Australian Snacks Every American Needs To Try Immediately

Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!

1. Lamingtons

Lamingtons are layers of sponge cake coated in chocolate and rolled in coconut and they're basically the best thing you could get in your lunchbox. They make Little Debbie look like she needs to retire from the baked goods industry.

2. Spaghetti Jaffle

A jaffle is basically a "sandwich iron" which seals the edges of a sandwich so the inside is a like a gooey pocket of happiness. A popular thing in Australia is to fill the white bread with tinned spaghetti (like a better version of Chef Boyardee) so it's like a spaghetti sandwich. SO MUCH YES.

4. Pavlova

It's just meringue and fruit and love and happiness and everything good in the world. Definitely my birthday cake for the rest of my life.

5. Vegemite on Buttered Toast

This is how you eat Vegemite. Sorry to anyone who thought you could eat a spoonful straight from the jar because that's what Mary Kate and Ashley did in Our Lips Are Sealed (that was 100% Nutella anyways) because that's just nonsense. It's very salty and yeasty and best eaten sparingly.

The real secret Aussie hack for Vegemite toast is to add some slices of ripe avocado or a freshly poached egg. YUMMM.

10. Violet Crumble

These chocolate-covered crunchy honeycomb bars are the most addicting, orgasmic candy ever. They are too good to be compared to anything in America or anywhere else really so you'll just have to try them for yourself.

Brb, booking my flight to Sydney byyyyyeeeee.

11. Cheesymite Scrolls

These "scrolls" are like cinnamon rolls but filled with cheese and a little Vegemite instead. It's the perfect savory breakfast pastry that you could probably eat an entire batch of if they're hot and fresh out of the oven.

12. Anzac Biscuits

These buttery, sugary oat and coconut cookies are named after the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), who apparently relied on the biscuit as a high-calorie staple during World War I. One hundred years later, they're still fucking amazing.

15. Meat Pies

Mince meat pies are the perfect combination of meat and carbs in a portable pie form. The crust is flaky and you can top it with "tomAHto sauce" (ketchup) or your favorite condiments. You will never touch a hotdog again after trying this I promise.

16. Shapes

They DO NOT hold back with the seasoning on these and it's a literal dream. And somehow they're perfectly crispy even though the crackers are baked instead of fried. They come in flavors like pizza, rotisserie chicken, BBQ, cheese & bacon — why am I even still describing these? Shapes are good enough to sell themselves.

19. Arnott's Mint Slices

Some people would go as far as to say these are better than Thin Mints. I am one of those people and I have no regrets.
