I May Have Discovered A Way To Deter Cat-Callers

Ladies, listen.

Listen, I know how irritating (and terrifying) walking around can be for a woman. It doesn't matter what time of day, where you are, or what you're wearing, there is always some a-hole who wants to yell something disgusting or crude in your general direction. As a college student, I have had my fair share of cat-calling experiences and I believe I have found some type of solution.

My previous attempts to thwarting these jerks:

At first, I was angry. I would yell back at cat-callers or give them a rude hand gesture thinking I was standing up to them. Eventually I realized this does nothing but antagonize them further or make me more upset.

Then I tried ignoring the idiots. I'm not going to even delve further into this because all women understand trying to "be above it" doesn't do jack. Finally, after 2 years at my college..I figured something out...

For as much as people love to be on their phones and have a presence on the internet, cat-callers HATE it. One day I was walking to the grocery store and I had to wait to cross the intersection. A guy pulled up in his souped-up, POS car and started asking me if "I wanted a ride..on his face" (I know, I know) and I decided to video tape how absolutely ridiculous he was being. The instant I pulled my phone out, he shut up. It was like perv-rejecting magic. Almost no one wants proof of their stupidity and misogynistic behavior on the internet!

I know this isn't the end-all-be-all of cat-calling (a girl can dream) but I hope that maybe this works for you ladies out there. Hopefully one day we won't have to worry about walking outside (or breathing, or wearing clothes, the list goes on) but until then, best of luck my fellow queens.
