30 Things To Help You Spring Clean The Places You Probably Never Thought To Clean

Psst: If you haven't been dusting ~between~ your sofa cushions, you'll wanna check out this super slim gap-cleaning brush.

    1. A pack of dishwasher cleaning tablets, because how clean could your dishes really be if your dishwasher itself is a mess? These will tackle any limescale and mineral buildup your dish detergent just isn't cut out for while swapping rank odors for a pleasant lemon scent.

reviewer's dirty dishwasher with brown stains on the bottom
The same dishwasher, which is now stain-free after using the tablets

Just pop them into the tray where you'd normally put detergent (or on the bottom of your dishwasher if you're washing dishes at the same time), and run as usual!

Promising review: "Honestly love these things! I am renting and our dishwasher was not cleaned super well between tenants. I popped one of these in and could already see a huge difference; after using two, my dishes have come out looking so much cleaner! I have the same brand for washing machine cleaner and love those, too." —M

Another promising review: "I have had a film on my dishwasher for quite some time now, I am embarrassed to say. We did not realize that it was necessary to clean the dishwasher from time to time. The buildup had been accumulating for over four years now. I tried several other cleaners to get the buildup off, but failed. I bought this product and figured it was worth a try. We added the product into the dishwasher and ran a normal cycle without dishes. When we opened it back up, it looked like new. Highly recommend this product!" —Phillip and Katherine

    2. A highly rated Conair fabric shaver that'll pull up way more fuzz and lint from your sofa than you ever dreamed imaginable. Yes, you must clean your couch! Oh, and pet owners swear by this thing, since it shaves down scratched-up threads and makes upholstery look like new.

reviewer before and after photos showing a sofa with scratched-up fabric on the left and the fabric looking like new on the right
reviewer photo of the fabric shaver next to a pile of lint it removed from a couch

It has three settings to control how close of a shave you give your fabric. It's also great for sweaters and small enough that you can take it on trips — don't forget the AA batteries if you opt for the battery-powered model!

My sister has two cats who love scratching at her couch, and she says won't ever be without this thing: "I always keep the shaver close at hand in case I see my cats clawing the couch. It seriously shaves the fibers down to the surface so you can't even tell where my cats have clawed. Pure magic!"

Promising review: "A literal MUST-BUY!! Bought this for my couch after seeing so many people reviewing it on social media and it worked like a charm! Those little lint balls were so frustrating after I would wash my cushion covers, but this little tool fixed that problem in minutes. About to go use this on everything I own!!" —Ashley

    3. A highly rated power scrubber you can think of as an electric toothbrush for your whole b-room. Just like the one you use for your mouth, it'll get into those neglected spaces harboring loads of gunk, like the edges of fixtures and grout.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed Shopping's Natalie Brown is a fan of this: "I'm obsessed! This thing works small miracles: I cleaned about half of my bathroom's grout to its original sparkling-clean cream color in 40 minutes, and it took honestly no effort at all. And — as if easy, sparkling grout wasn't enough! — it busted through some serious soap-scum buildup in my bathtub (thanks, fancy soap and slow-draining tub) in less than a minute.

"Honestly, when I first tried the scrubber out, I didn't see too many uses for it other than for grout. But after owning it for a while, I've realized that while I don't need it every single week, it's priceless for the occasions I encounter tough gunk that I'd otherwise only conquer with excessive patience and elbow grease."

    4. A tub of *iconic* cleaning paste The Pink Stuff, because once you see how much stain-lifting power this absolute miracle in a jar has, you're gonna wonder how you ever just accepted the fact that those crayon catastrophes all over your wall were there to stay. Not only does it get stains out, it does it so quickly and with minimal effort on your part.

reviewer before and after photos showing a shower with crayon markings all over it, and then the shower looking spotless after being cleaned with the pink stuff
reviewer photo of a tub of the pink stuff on an oven door, half of which is dirty, and half of which is clean

After seeing countless videos on cleaning TikTok that raved about The Pink Stuff, I knew I had to try it out on my stained, grime-coated sheet tray. I mean, if it could make a dent in that, I'd probably believe in magic. Well, I started scrubbing one corner as a test, and lo and behold, the difference was nothing short of DRAMATIC — check out my TikTok of The Pink Stuff being used three ways for proof! And I didn't even have to scrub very hard, though as someone with ~minimal~ upper body strength, I doubt any force I could physically apply would even constitute as heavy scrubbing. At any rate, it worked so well that I tried it on a pair of dirty tennis shoes and a blue stain that had been singed onto my toaster oven for months, and, yup, it worked. I will say, if you want your sheet trays to look brand spankin' new, you might need a cleaning scraper tool to get every last bit off, but as far as general stain removal goes, consider me a FAN.

Promising review: "This is a MIRACLE worker! We’ve had a bath crayon stain on our tub for over two weeks and tried everything to remove it. Magic Eraser didn’t even do the job! I let this paste sit for about 15 minutes and with warm water and some scrubbing it’s GONE! HIGHLY recommend this product!" —M_H

    5. And a versatile pack of melamine sponges, which are fantastic for tackling stubborn smudges, dirt, and grime without the need for chemical sprays. No, repainting your walls isn't necessarily inevitable! Just wet the sponges with water, wipe the dirty spot, and lift your jaw off the floor when you see how well it makes those ancient Cheeto dust fingerprints all over your house disappear.

Reviewers say they're just as effective as the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, and much more affordable!

Promising review: "My husband and I recently moved to a new apartment and the previous renter was a slob. (Seriously, I'm thinking that there may have even been a demon possession involved. We're talking food on the CEILING kind of 'slob'). Upon moving in, I noticed some sort of unidentifiable grossness all over the back of my bathroom door! After donning a hazmat suit, I grabbed one of these erasers and in no time flat the possible dried projectile demon vomit was off of my door. Thank goodness!" —Beckaroosy

Another promising review: "As good as Mr. Clean Magic Erasers but half the price. They clean so many surfaces better than anything. We use them at the bar and clean our chalkboards, metal sinks and ice wells, beer coolers, FRP backsplash walls, and even graffiti in the bathrooms comes off more easily with these than other cleaning products. I took one home and cleaned my shower faster and more easily than with bottles of shower cleaner. Highly recommended." —Stephen Brandau

Promising review: "So easy to set up! I use it daily. It does a fantastic job on the pet hair! And it even gets up the very fine soot from the the wind blowing into my living room! Really makes a difference!!! My white floors are shining!" —Liz H.

Another promising review: "Life changing. My Roomba is one of my favorite things I have ever bought myself. It’s incredible! It cleans so thoroughly, and I am so impressed by how well it cleans under furniture. As a two-cat owner who is not the best at maintaining a cleaning schedule, I can’t believe it took me this long to get one. It is also great on both carpet and hard wood!" —Katherine Hanson

Promising review: "So I bought this originally for my son, who has really bad allergies to dust. At first, we didn't know what was causing this until someone told me to check our beds and furniture. Even though we change our bed sheets regularly, there will be dust left over. So I decided to give this a try and they were right! I couldn't believe how many mites and how much dust there was. I took my time cleaning everyone's bed and our sofa; it was easy to use and light. My son hasn't had a reaction in a while. This product works for my family!" —Lisa

    8. A foaming garbage disposal cleaner that'll rid your kitchen of those gross, lingering smells coming from your sink — you know, the ones you probably assumed were just part of dumping food remnants down your drain, until now. This stuff will replace those icky odors with a bright, citrus scent while clearing away nasty buildup. And watching it bubble away is pretty fun!

reviewer gif of the garbage disposal cleaner bubbling up into a blue foam in their sink
hand placing the garbage disposal cleaner packet into a drain

Promising review: "I love these! I absolutely hate a dirty sink and I use these to keep my disposal from stinking. We bought our house back in October and there was a crazy funk coming from the drain. I tried a lot of different things from baking soda/vinegar to ice and lemons, etc. These little packages have gotten rid of that problem and I continue to use them bc they are cheap and they work. Also, there is something really satisfying about the blue bubbles in the sink." —Danielle

Get a four-pack from Amazon for $3.78+ (available in boxed or bagged packaging).

    9. A pack of washing machine cleaning tablets, because, real talk: Doing a load of laundry alone just won't cut it when it comes to keeping the appliance itself clean. The tablets are safe to use with pretty much any type of washer: HE or regular, top-loading and front-loading. Simply place one tablet in your empty washing machine and run a normal wash cycle, then wipe away the residue — easy breezy!

Promising review: "These are like magic! We all know that front load washers can get a distinct smell to them after a while. Every once in a while I pop one of these babies in, run it on self clean, and let it go. As soon as it’s done, it’s like I have a brand new machine. The scent isn’t strong, no more than your average detergent. I swear by these. I highly recommend them to friends and I highly recommend them to you, too!" —Alyssat17

Get a pack of six from Amazon for $8.98 (also available in packs of three, five, or 12).

    10. A no-rinse coil cleaner for anyone who didn't realize cleaning the inner workings of their fridge and air conditioner was a thing and, honestly, doesn't really wanna do it. Fair enough! Having clean coils helps ensure your appliances keep cool and run more efficiently, so simply spray this foaming cleaner onto the coils, and watch the mess dissolve before your eyes.

reviewer before and after photos showing dirty air conditioner coils above and the coils looking much cleaner below

Promising review: "Works like magic! I have a Sub-Zero refrigerator with the evaporator at the top. I looked and saw the amount of lint and grime that had built up. There were several versions of this type of product, I bought this — one of the less expensive versions — and it worked exceptionally well. I have no idea where all of the stuff goes — but when this spray hits it, it disappears. There is probably enough of the stuff in the can to do three or four refrigerators, so I passed it onto my neighbors, who were impressed, too." —MatBo911

Get it from Amazon for $20.95.

    11. A reusable Swiffer duster pad that can lay a lot flatter than feather and bristle brushes to snag dust from smaller spaces — like the gap between your fridge and cabinets. Considering it means putting a bit less into landfills and also saving money in the long run, I only wish I had bought these years ago, sincerely. Also they shipped very promptly and arrived sooner than expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. Thanks!" —otherlings

    12. dryer vent cleaner attachment, because simply cleaning out your lint catcher might not be enough, and with this, you'll reduce the risk of extra lint buildup becoming a potential fire hazard. You probably didn't even know something like this existed, but once you see how much filth it sucks up, a wave of horror — followed by sheer relief — will wash over you.

This adapter is compatible with most vacuum cleaner pipes, so all you have to do is attach it to your vacuum and guide it around your dryer to suck up excess and hard-to-reach lint. It also comes with a guide wire so you can easily direct the hose. Too much lint buildup not only slows down the drying process, it's also a fire hazard, so this handy device can actually be considered a safety tool!

Promising review: "Yes, we had a sock in our dryer vent!! This past summer, the lint trap broke on our dryer. Our kids ran the dryer regardless! What a disaster. Received my vacuum kit today, and now my clothes are dry! I sucked up the sock, as well as a piece of lint roller tape. Great product!" —Laurel Enoch

    14. A powerful drill brush kit in case you thought your bathmat was keeping the floor of your tub clean all this time, only to find some caked-on stains upon lifting it up. Promising review: "I had some buildup of soap scum on my bathroom sink I had tried to get off, and it just wasn't possible, so I let it continue to build up. I got to the point where I just thought it looked awful and needed a new solution. I decided the drill brushes was worth trying, and within about 10 minutes of drill brushing my sink is like brand-new." —ToddV

Another promising review: "Bought these on a whim and was skeptical if they would really help, but man am I glad I did! They made cleaning our glass shower door and fiberglass shower a breeze! Don't really want to admit how long it had been between cleanings, but the shower shined like it never had before. No issues with the brushes leaving marks, but definitely want to err on the side of caution on how long you stay in a spot." —Molly

Get a set of three brush heads from Amazon for $18.95 (available with soft, medium, stiff, and ultra-stiff bristles in several colors).

    15. An overnight toilet tank cleaner for anyone who scrubs their bowl every now and then and is like, "Good enough." Unfortunately, icky odors can come from the tank as well, so you'll wanna pour some of this in as a refresh every so often — no manual labor required! And if you have hard water, this can take care of stubborn deposits, too.

Promising review: "According to the instructions I was supposed to use the whole bottle, but being that it was so big and that I had two toilets to clean, I only used half. I was pleasantly surprised. The toilet tank is from the 1960s and I doubt it's been cleaned within the last few decades. In the 'after' photo you can see that there is still some rust left over but large chunks fell off the sides and can be seen on the bottom of the tank." —Nicole

Get it from Amazon for $10.04.

    16. A window blind duster brush, because even though the idea of cleaning each and every one of those slats probably sounds nothing short of extraordinarily taxing, it's gotta happen. Luckily, this handy device seriously cuts down on the amount of time it takes to do what is perhaps one of the least enjoyable tasks — with great results to boot.

Included are five reusable and washable microfiber cloths, which can also be used for cleaning hard-to-reach areas like air conditioners and car blinds.

Promising review: "I love this product!! It works fantastically! I am a housekeeper for several private homes. My least favorite job: cleaning window blinds! I have used about every method there is, but the job is still very time consuming. The main reason it takes so long is you must clean each and every slat separately to do the job right. Not anymore! With this product you can clean two slats at once, and it cleans them the first swipe! The microfiber is the key to getting all the dust, and the design of the product makes it super easy! PLUS, this tool can be used on different types of blinds because it is flexible! I have used it on wooden shutters, plastic vertical patio door blinds, and horizontal metal 'mini' blinds. Additionally, the microfiber 'sleeve' that fits on the tool is washable, and it comes with five of them, so it's a real value — being reusable, and with so many to use, it should last a long time before they all completely wear out! This product deserves 10 stars!" —Sandy D

Get it from Amazon for $7.99 (available in blue or green).

    17. And a Scrub Daddy Damp Duster, which has little grooves for actually trapping lint from blinds, door slats, railings, shutters, and other ignored areas, rather than sending the dust flying everywhere. Just rinse it off when it's dirty and reuse it!

    18. A nifty baseboard cleaning tool that also extends to help you reach the long forgotten tops of door frames and windows — the amount of dust up there will astound you! Promising review: "I have lived in my house for three years and have never cleaned my baseboards. We are a busy, active family and 'clean the baseboards' is never on the immediate list of things to be done…not to say that it doesn’t need to be done. I just don’t have time. Then I spotted the Baseboard Buddy. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it. It showed up today and I put it together in about two minutes and took it for a test drive. I dusted my entire downstairs, above the doors and along the stair rails in about 15 minutes! I used it dry and it worked great. I’ll probably use a multipurpose cleaner with it next time. The head swivels, which is great. There is a tiny bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy." —Jennifer H.

Get it from Amazon for $24.99.

    19. A set-it-and-forget-it multipurpose outdoor cleaner, because your driveway, fence, and patio deserve some attention, too! Those green moss and mildew stains you thought you were stuck with? Nope, no match for this stuff. Just spray some on, and you should notice a huge difference in as little as a week!

Tougher black stains could take several months to go away, and if needed, you can re-spray 1–2 months after the first application.

Promising review: "I have a brick patio. When I bought this house it was covered, and I mean covered with moss. A good power wash each spring was never enough to stop the moss from returning, and month after month during the summers was a struggle, man vs plant. I did that for two years, cursing and complaining the whole time. This April I did my spring power wash as usual and immediately treated this patio. It is now going into August and I have not had even a wisp of moss this year — I mean nothing! I would recommend this product without any reservations. When you put it on you may think to yourself that it doesn't look like you really did much. It dries quick and looks the same as it did before, but wow does it do exactly what it says it will do." —PM in NH

    20. And on that note, a concrete deodorizer that was created to clear up those not-so-pleasant odors your pup often leaves on the patio. It's filled with peppermint, grapefruit, and tea tree oils, along with water and vinegar, and it can also be used as a bug deterrent!

I’d be embarrassed for anyone to see the dust bunnies, lost items, etc., I easily pulled out using this great duster. And, it stores compactly, too. I was very impressed that it also came with a replacement cover, although the original cover is well made and looks to last for a long time. My BuzzFeed Shopping colleague Danielle Healy had a lot of success with this stuff: "Shortly after moving into my current apartment, my partner and I went to store something on the top of the kitchen cabinets only to find them caked in thick layer of grime left from previous tenants. After going at it with regular multipurpose cleaner (with little success) we broke out the scour paste as a last-ditch effort and OH BOY did this miracle product deliver — pics above. After handling all that grossness, it's had no problem with day-to-day messes like soap scum and burnt-on food. Plus, it smells delightful and comes in minimal, low-waste packaging!"

The set includes two brushes: a larger one for things like grout and stovetops and a smaller one with a brush side and wiper blade side.

Promising review: "Shocking! I got this at the request of a friend who was helping with cleaning. They weren't expensive, so I decided to get them. I thought they were kind of silly, I use toothbrushes if I need a small cleaning brush. No more toothbrushes for cleaning for me! These really do let you get into cracks and corners, and the bristles are stiff enough to get packed-in dirt out. And the silly squeegee on the end? Awesome. I rent, and have places in my apartment I've never been able to get clean. With these brushes and the squeegee tip, I think the apartment is finally clean of old tenant's dirt." —Laura Gail

Promising review: "Perfect little brush to get in the hard to clean areas. Used it in the tracks of an old pet door stuffed with dog hair and dander. It includes a crevice brush, bottle brush, groove brush, gap brush, edge brush, detailing brush, track brush, corner brush, and hole brush.

Promising review: "I'm always needing to clean impossibly tight spaces and corners. These were inexpensive, so I gave them a shot and I'm glad I did. They're better than I'd hoped. Not only do they have useful brushes and soft tipped heads that wipe tight spaces, the handles have hard plastic tools on the other end as well. I've scraped grime and film from corners and grooves with the angled plastic scraper edges on the handles of several of these tools, then used that tool's soft tip to wipe it away. I'm restoring a 100-year-old house, so I clean some really grimy things. I've been amazed at how completely the soft tips on these rinse clean under just some hot water with a squirt of bleach cleaner for the worst of the grime. The zip-up plastic pouch is a nice extra. Nothing fancy about it, but it keeps the tools together and easy to find. And it's sturdy, which I appreciate." —R. Hewitt

Clean-Eez is an Indiana-based small biz selling cleaning products that'll make tackling even the toughest jobs a lot easier.

Promising review: "Simply the best product! I rent and unfortunately not everyone takes good care of a rental property. I just moved and was disgusted by the flooring (regular white tiles with disgustingly dark grout). Used the product as directed and the results really impressed me! Definitely recommend this product!" —Maria Alejandra Hinojosa

Another promising review: "After trying to get my grout clean with everything I could think of and not having any success, I stumbled upon a TikTok using Grout-Eez so i thought I would try it. This stuff is legit. I’m confident a professional cleaner couldn’t get my grout cleaner. There is literally no dirt left. Very little scrubbing required and little to no odor. It’s amazing! The scrub brush included attached to my paint handle and I didn’t even have to bend over. I cleaned it twice because my grout was really dirty, then I sealed the grout in hopes it won’t get dirty again so fast. I can’t wait to do the rest of my house!" —Kathy

It even comes with a handy scrub brush!

Promising review: "This stuff is amazing. I made the mistake of putting too many logs in my fire at one time and my flue couldn’t keep up. So needless to say, my white fireplace got discolored. I used this stuff and it made it as good as new!" —Jedadia T.

Another promising review: "Unbelievable! My daughter just moved into her first home. She thought she would have to paint her brick fireplace because of the heavy soot stains that had been there for years. We applied the product twice and put in a whole lot of elbow grease, but what a difference! It’s a messy process, but well worth the time and energy." —MM

Promising review: "I honestly did not think this was going to work any better than some other methods I had tried. Boy was I wrong. Followed the instructions and watched in disbelief as the gunk and the grime started surfacing in the tub. Let it run its course, drained the tub, then filled it with cold water, ran the jets for 10 minutes, and it was like brand new. Every now and then you come across a product that actually works, this being one of those. BTW it hardly has any smell, which also surprised me." —JJS in Madison

Promising review: "This stuff is incredible. There's no smell, it's a super easy application, and it gives instant results. You could see the dirt dripping down the chandelier...gross. I will definitely be buying this again. I recommend putting plastic underneath with a sheet or paper towels on top to absorb the drip.
