What It's Like To Go Straight From School To Your Career

Finding a job after you graduate from school is tough. We know that. But I'm tired of hearing your complaints. There are some of us who don't take a break after graduation, and literally jump right into a job the next day. Sometimes it can be a good thing, but sometimes you have to give up some stuff way too soon.

1. You can still enjoy summer

When summertime approaches, you can still enjoy the time off. Because unless you're a teacher, there's no more summer vacation.

2. You still have a social life

Your friends won't be constantly abandoning you because you are "always working."

And when people you haven't seen in a long time ask you what's been going on, you'll have an answer other than "working."

Hey, you gotta work hard to get that promotion!

3. You won't even understand the term "sleep deprivation."

Staying up all night to watch Netflix isn't the same as staying up all night to get work done. And even if you do, you can totally sleep in the next day.

4. You won't have to worry about the phrases "TGIF", "Hump Day", or "I hate Mondays" for a while.

When those words enter your vocabulary, you've officially lost your soul. It's upsetting when you realize, every day, you're just waiting for Friday, then dreading Monday.

5. You have time to figure out what you really want to do.

Take the time to explore, travel, meet people, and try new things. You have to find something you want to do for the rest of your life, so you should probably take some time to figure that out.

6. You need some down time after all that studying.

School is stressful, man. Teachers and papers and deadlines and projects and powerpoints and tests. It can be too much, especially towards the end of the year. You n need to give your brain a little R&R before jumping into the next challenge.

7. Take the time to network

Finding the job you ultimately want can be a lot easier when you meet people in that field. Everybody knows somebody who knows somebody, so find those people and build a relationship. When you are ready for a job, they can help you find the right one.

8. You can still enjoy your youth and freedom.

Sometimes, when you jump in a job too quickly, you can grow up too fast. Little things begin to lose meaning, you lose track of your favorite T.V. shows cause you're just too busy, you can no longer finish a good book in a timely manner, and you might even lose the desire to go out on weekends, cause you're just too tired from the busy work week.

9. You get to perfect yourself.

We all have things we need to work on. You may not realize it right away, but as you spend more time with yourself, you'll start to understand about you needs to be improved. Sit outside, read a book, go hiking, go driving and get lost. Just spend a lot of time with yourself. It's important for you to know yourself, so when you do go on those job interviews, you can let that hiring manager know why you're the perfect person for the job.

But getting a job right away isn't all bad. If you do decide to jump straight into your career, just remember to not work yourself to death, so you can maintain your sanity, and learn everything you can. It'll definitely benefit you in the long run.
