Response to The Boycott Of “Ender’s Game” Has Begun:
I love the Ender Wiggins Saga. They are WONDERFUL books. I used to think that Orson Scott Card just HAD to be a wonderful, sensitive person. Imagine my surprise when I discovered just how HATEFUL he could be. I was crushed, to say the least. Now, even though I will still read his books, I refuse to buy them. That’s what my local library is for. I will not watch the movie in the theaters, nor will I purchase a DVD copy. If OSC was just your “run-of-the-mill” homophobe, I could probably ignore his beliefs and enjoy his writing for what it is. But he uses his earnings from book sales to ACTIVELY campaign against equality, and that is something that I WILL NOT SUPPORT. I can spend my “book money” on less bigoted authors, like Elizabeth Moon and Lois McMaster Bujold. If people out there don’t care about OSC’s beliefs, they can go ahead and watch the movie. I won’t, and it looks like there’s a LOT of people out there in the world who agree with me. I’m not going to stand outside the theater with a protest sign; I’m just going to vote with my feet, and not spend money on it.
