Movies have the power to influence the thoughts and actions of even the youngest minds.
Dressing up as a favorite character, singing along to the soundtrack or even using a Cinderella toothbrush are moments in every day life that prove how a two hour movie can stick with us for much longer than simply its running time.
With minimal female protagonists in popular movies and the continued popularity of the "male hero defeats the villain to get the girl" archetype, movies have not been educating our kids properly about gender equality or the right way to treat women.
The attached clip is from a TED talk about the examples we are setting for the kids of this generation by showing them these often skewed movies with female characters who do not talk or exemplify characteristics we want our daughters to possess.
Without setting better examples or holding Hollywood to a higher standard, our kids and the world they will one day inhabit will only offer increasingly flawed and imbalanced examples of how people should behave.
