.If you wanted to rent the newest blockbuster movie it meant having to get to the video store early on a release day...'cause there was a good chance they'd run out of copies.
.If you wanted to avoid a late fee on your rentals then it meant dropping off the movies in one of these slots.
.If you wanted to just stay home and watch a movie you could do it through Pay-Per-View, but it required you to call the cable company to request it and talk to a human being (yikes!).
.If you were going to drop off or pick up your friends or family at the airport it meant going all the way to their gate with them (yup, you went through security with them and could even watch the plane take off from the gate).
.And if you were traveling you were allowed to check-in up to two bags free of charge, along with your carry-on.
.If you couldn't find a number in the phonebook then you would dial 411 (for a fee) and a HUMAN operator would look up the number for you.
.If you wanted to set your clock to the correct time you could call "POPCORN" (767-2676) and an automated operator would tell you the time.
.If you went to Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom it meant waiting in long lines, 'cause there was NO Fast Pass (you'd also have to talk to the people you were with 'cause there was no other way to entertain yourself).
.If you were going to places like McDonald's it required you have to cash with you, they didn't take cards.
.If you had to send an important document ASAP you probably did it through a fax (especially if it required a signature).
.If you were going somewhere and wanted to take pictures then you had to remember to take your camera with you...
....and also extra film if you wanted to take lots of photos or if your film roll was about to run out.
.If you wanted someone to call you back and they weren't home you would have to leave them a message (it wasn't called voicemail, FTR) on their answering machine.
.Also, you pretty much memorized everyone's phone number that you called on a regular basis.
.And if you paged a friend or family member you'd have to wait around the phone for them to call you back.
.If you wanted to tape something off the TV then you had to make sure you had a blank VHS tapes (or else you'd have to tape over video you wanted to save).
.If you wanted to see what movies and albums were coming out that week then you probably looked through the Sunday paper circulars.
.You also looked through the paper's classifieds for everything from jobs and secondhand items for sale, to apartments and missed connections.
.If you didn't have a store like J. Crew around then you could order items through its catalog...which, yes, required filling out a form and doing it all through the mail (or calling them and talking to an operator if you wanted to get your items a little quicker).
.If you were traveling or didn't have internet at home then you could check your email and browse the internet at cyber cafes.
.If you watched a bootleg movie then it most likely was something someone recorded at a movie theater with a camcorder.
.If you got a gift card it was actually a gift certificate (printed on paper) and there was NO WAY to replace it if it was lost.
.If you wanted B-sides, remixes, and international singles from an artist you liked then you'd have to buy them from a record store (that's if they carried them).
.If you wanted to see your favorite artist live (and if they were popular) then you'd more than likely have to get into a huge line at the venue or local Ticketmaster to buy the tickets.
.And finally, if you wanted to watch porn then you'd have to watch a screen that looked like this:
