The parallel city of Monstropolis (Gibson Hall) is inhabited by monsters and powered by the screams of high schoolers in the human world. At the Monsters, Inc. Office of Undergraduate Admission, employees called "Scarers" venture into applicant's s high schools to scare them and collect their screams, using closet doors made by Royall as portals. This is considered a dangerous task since the monsters believe parents to be toxic and that touching them would be fatal.
