One man was faced with this difficult question.

A video showing an Australian man confronting a kangaroo and then punching it in the face has gone viral, and no one quite knows how to feel about it.

The DVD is sold in newsagents in regional Australia, and acts as a sort of documentary, following a group of men out hunting. One of them, identified as Greg Tonkins, jumps out of a truck after seeing that one of their dogs is being held by a huge kangaroo.

Tonkins approaches the kangaroo before punching it in the face. Both he and the dog then escape.

Multiple uploads of the video have received millions of views on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and have sparked an inquiry into Greg Tonkins' career as a zookeeper at Dubbo Western Plains Zoo. (He'll keep his job, the zoo has announced)

It's also been revealed that the video is from a hunting trip organised for a young man named Kailem who had a rare bone cancer, Ewing sarcoma, and wanted to catch a boar.

And while the video has been labelled the most Australian piece of footage ever, it has also opened debate as to whether punching the kangaroo was the right thing to do.

I took on two pit bulls who tried to kill my dog. You bet your sweet ass I'd punch a kangaroo in the goddamn chest.… https://t.co/71RktKmRPC

He wanted to punch a kangaroo. He was engaging in animal cruelty.
