Pauline Hanson Is Very Concerned About Squat Toilets

"It starts with toilets and ends with costing us our Australian way of life."

One Nation party leader Pauline Hanson is outraged that the Australian Tax Office has installed squat toilets in its Melbourne offices.

In a Facebook video published yesterday, the newly elected senator stands on a beach with her iPhone in her hand. She holds up a sign demonstrating how to use a Western-style toilet and criticises the ATO for the fact that 20% of its workforce comes from "non-English speaking backgrounds".

"If they don't know how to use a toilet here in Australia ... regardless at just the ATO, our parks, convention centres, in the Aussie homes, everywhere else ... Then what the hell is going on?" asks Hanson, as she demonstrates how to squat.

Squat toilets are commonly found in non-Western countries, especially across Asia.

Hanson then finishes with a confusing final flourish:

"'Cause I know what's more confusing, and it’s definitely not using a squat toilet," she says with a smirk. "It’s doing our tax."

Hanson also took to Facebook to talk with supporters about the toilets. "It starts with toilets and ends with costing us our Australian way of life," she warned.

The ATO's chief finance officer, Justin Untersteiner, told SBS in early August that the ATO was committed to catering for all "the different needs of our employees", describing the introduction of squat toilets as "a positive thing".
