I'm Not Throwing An Oscar Party Because Of The Snub Of Non White Actors

Hi, 2015? 1900 called and they want their racism back.

Despite being a white male, I've decided not to throw an Oscar party this year as protest against there not being a single person of color nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Director categories.

This isn't about Rick from payroll having a party that everyone is going to go to even if I were throwing a party. This is about the fact that 94% of Academy voters are white. Of that 94%, 77% are males.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "But Jeff, don't you live in your chronically ill aunt's living room and she doesn't allow you to have people over?" Move on and check your privilege. What does that have to do with anything? This is completely about the systematic elimination of minorities from film.

Having to work my second job at Foodville bringing in carts and emptying trash cans on Oscar night is not a factor. I'm doing this because no one else will.

I haven't seen Selma yet but I plan on getting around to it. I'm working my way through Friends on Netflix. Is Selma on Netflix? I haven't looked, but if it is I might watch it after I'm done with Friends.
