4 ORDINARY PHOTOS WITH EXTRAORDINARY STORIES

Revealing assassination attempts, hidden dictators and movie star cameos, here are four seemingly normal images that ended up having remarkable stories behind them.

1. Adolf Hitler at Munich’s Odeonplatz

Here’s an image of a happy crowd. It seems innocent enough, right? However, on further inspection, one iconic face stands out from the crowd. With his slick, black hair and neatly trimmed Chaplin moustache, it is the face of a young, 26-year-old, Adolf Hitler.

Taken on August 2, 1914 at Munich’s Odensplatz by Heinrich Hoffmann, the crowd was there to celebrate the announcement of World War I. Little did they know that the future dictator of Nazi Germany was amongst them.

At first, Hoffmann did not recognise the future Furher in the crowd but when he later became Hitler’s official photographer, he noticed the face in one of his negatives. Recently, some historians have chalked this image up as a fake created by Hoffman to boost Hitler’s reputation as a patriot during World War Two.

2. Kim Jong Un Class Photo

Keeping with the ‘spot the dictator’ theme, which of these innocent kids of the 1990’s do you think will become the Supreme Commander of the fourth largest army in the world? Why it’s none other than North Korea’s tyrannical dictator, Kim Jong Un!

Taken in 1998 in Switzerland, the photo shows the future North Korean dictator posing with his classmates. A fellow classmate of the time admitted that they were unaware of his true identity and that one day Kim Jong Un just didn’t show up to school, only to show up 10 years later as the North Korean dictator.

Kim Jung Un is said to have been a basketball fan in his youth, which would explain his unusually close relationship with 90’s basketball bad boy, Dennis Rodman.

3. Bill Paxton At JFK Assassination

It’s Dallas, November 22nd 1963 and a young Bill Paxton hears that President John F. Kennedy is in town. He gathers in the crowd, sitting on someone’s shoulders trying to catch a glimpse of the President. Little did he or anyone else know that it would be the same day that JFK is assassinated.

The photo above was snapped on that fateful day while President Kennedy was giving a speech in the parking lot of Fort Worth’s Hotel Texas and the young boy, rising heads about everyone else, is the actor, Bill Paxton.

4. Queen Elizabeth Assassination Attempt

On 13th June 1981, a tourist in London, Georg P. Uebel took this extraordinary photograph of an attempted assassination of Queen Elizabeth II at the annual Trooping the Colour March. According to the reports six shots were fired by an unemployed, 17-year-old, Marcus Sarjent, before he was subdued.

The photo was taken right at the point when Sarjent fired the weapon. However, while the threat was real, the assassination attempt was not. Sarjent had loaded his gun with blanks and later told authorities that he just wanted to be famous. He was sentenced to five years in prison where he later wrote a letter to the Queen apologising for the attempt.
