Father Surprises Son Under Darth Vader Mask

A video recently posted to Welcome Home Blog features just such a meeting. "At the time of the video (May), our kids had been separated from their dad for almost 3 months," writes Susie Whyte (Vader's wife). "They thought they wouldn't be seeing him until December." After their 5-year-old son, Aiden, asked for a Star Wars-themed birthday party, Justin Whyte secretly secured 96 hours of leave so that he could surprise his children. Aiden played the role of Luke Skywalker, and daughter, Emily, became Princess Leia. Several minutes of light-saber dueling open the video, followed by a reenactment of the fateful scene where Skywalker injures Vader. Unlike the Hollywood film, however, when Aiden unveils Vader in this real-life variant, it is actually his father. Cue gleeful squeals of "Dadddy!" and hugs all around. According to Military Times, Whyte is currently on deployment in the Middle East. He's looking forward to seeing his family in time for Christmas. A father and U.S. Air Force Colonel in Beaverton, Oregon, also surprised his 5-year-old son with a similar birthday-party homecoming in July.
