    The crystalline form of "guanine" is utilized extensively in the beauty industry as a colorant and light diffusing agent. AKA, it makes stuff sparkly. And oh boy do we loveeee sparkles!

    What many don't know is where those sparkles come from.

    SPOILER ALERT: The guanine substance is derived from fish scales.

    "Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's Guanine."

    Well, that's ironic.

    Maybelline is one of the many companies that frequently adds guanine to its cosmetics. Look for the substance disguised as "CI 75170" or our personal favorite "natural pearl essence" in the ingredients list.
