Indiana's Best Summer Beers

Man, I am excited. I took a trip over to Oak & Alley in Warsaw, Indiana this past week -- the service was phenomenal, the specials were impressive, and the atmosphere and food were great. But that wasn't all, I was on a mission to find the best Indiana brewed summer beers. The guys were happy to help, and I think you'll really like what they had to say:

Apocalypse Cow -- Three Floyds

Three Floyds Brewing Co. is one of the most famous Indiana breweries around. Located in Munster, these guys like to do craft beers...a bit differently. The Apocalypse Cow, one of their summer seasonals is great: it tastes creamy, fruity, and delicious with a sweet pine aftertaste. You want a great Hoosier beer? You got it right here.

Moloko -- Three Floyds

The guys mentioned the Moloko Milk Stout, another Three Floyds summer beer. You might not expect to see a stout on a list of summer beers, but Three Floyds does it best! This stout is brewed with a portion of golden naked oats and lactose milk sugar to give it a rounded and full-bodied mouth feel. It also has a deep roasted and slightly sweet maltiness. The people at Beeradvocate.com gave this beer a 92 out of 100 -- that's impressive.

13 American Black Ale -- Iechyd Da

Iechyd Da (pronounced "Yacky Dah") looks like a mouthful, but you're going to want more than that when you've had their 13 American Black Ale (second from the left). Brewed in Elkhart, Indiana, it's a contender for one of the best beers brewed in Northern Indiana. This seasonal beer is deceptively dark, but has a great, hoppy bite.

Summer Daze -- Mad Anthony Brewing

Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mad Anthony Brewing is excited about this summer beer. The Summer Daze Pale Wheat Ale comes with a citrusy, clover honey taste and is smooth as all get out. Mad Anthony's is gaining popularity in Indiana, and makes Hoosier beer-drinkers proud to call it a locally brewed drink.

Popcorn Pilsner -- Sun King

From one of the most popular breweries in Indiana, Sun King Brewery delivers this iconic and unique beer. People have described the Popcorn Pilsner as the best ballgame beer out there because this, my friends, is a beer brewed with popped popcorn. This drinkable, clean pilsner has a little bit of hop bitterness in each sip, but the undeniable popcorn taste is there. Try it out!

Grapefruit Jungle (GFJ) -- Sun King

Another Sun King seasonal favorite -- the Grapefruit Jungle IPA! Watch out though, you're going to have to wait until June 28th to get some, but the wait will be more than worth it! This seasonal beer has a blend of hops that provides a "jungle" of aroma and flavors - passionfruit, tangerine, apricot, grapefruit, and orange zest - with just the right amount of malt.

Independence IPA -- Indiana City Brewing Co.

Blast from the past -- I posted about these guys on one of my previous Buzzfeed articles and I'm excited to share their beer once again! Indiana City Brewing Co's Independence summer IPA is the perfect way to cool down on a hot Indiana day: the perfect summer brew with a great pine and hop taste.

Knobstone Pale Ale - Cutters Brewing

So get this! I was first introduced to Cutters Brewing Co by United State of Indiana's instagram feed last, but I was just told to check these guys out. According to beer aficionados online, Cutter's Knobstone Pale Ale has traces of earthy, orange bitters with an overall semi-sweet caramel malt taste. I've gotta get my hands on some soon!

Campside -- Upland Brewing Company

Still looking for more? Don't you worry, I've gotta get more great Indiana beers in here! Upland Brewing Co's famous Campside IPA will do the trick -- this beautiful beer has a pleasantly fruity smell and is more than drinkable. It's perfectly light and flavorful with some notes of grapefruit and passion fruit; try it out!

10-Speed Hoppy Wheat -- Bloomington Brewing Co.

Of course, don't forget the 10-Speed from Bloomington Brewing Co. This American wheat ale is very citrusy but is tempered by a sweet wheat taste. Light, drinkable, delicious, the 10-Speed Hoppy Wheat is a refreshing option for those hot summer days -- get your hands on it soon!
