17 Toys That Only '80s Kids Will Truly Remember

1. Masters of the Universe Evil Horde Slime Pit

Slime was huge in the '80s. I don't know where it started. Maybe the movie Ghostbusters, or that Canadian kids show with Alanis Morrissette, or maybe the game show Double Dare? Regardless, kids loved their slime in the '80s and the Evil Horde Slime Pit is a good example of that.

2. Sy Snootles and the Rebo Band

It seems like they made a Star Wars action figure for every major and minor character in the movies. I was probably one of the few kids who bought the Sy Snoodles and Rebo band set. Who wouldn't want to recreate the music from Jabba's palace at home?

3. My Buddy

I'm not sure if I ever actually saw anyone with this toy when I was kid, but damn that theme song from the My Buddy commercials was an ear-worm.

4. Kid Sister

The theme song for My Buddy was basically re-used for the toy Kid Sister, but the words were changed a bit. Still catchy as hell.

5. Lazer Tag

Ah Lazer Tag. If I remember correctly, I heard from a friend that the chest sensor wasn't very sensitive, so I'm not sure how easy it was to actually tag someone with the gun. I admittedly never owned one, so I can't confirm that.

6. Mumm-Ra from Thunder Cats

What is more heavy metal than Mumm-Ra from Thunder Cats? I remember thinking this toy seemed especially sinister when I was kid. His eyes would light up red when you touched the battery pack to his back. Pure evil indeed...

7. V action figure

Ah yes, V. This TV show was wild and the action figure was no different. This doll had a human face that you could peel off to reveal the lizard-like alien face hiding underneath. If that wasn't enough, there was a switch on his back to extend his tongue. Fun!

8. Dune Sandworm

Another tie-in toy, this time for the David Lynch movie Dune. I don't think these toys sold very well. I remember finding a sandworm one in our local Toys R' Us on markdown. I also bought the Sting action figure (see below). The spice must flow!

13. Teddy Ruxpin

Teddy Ruxpin was pretty cool. He came with a cassette that, when played in his back, would make him talk. I guess now he seems a bit outdated, though cassettes are making a comeback, so you never know...

14. Dwork of the Boglins

These were great. Boglins were basically rubber hand-puppets with a cool box that looks like they tried to break out of! They also had moveable eyes.

15. Secret Wars Tower of Doom

This was a play set for the Marvel comic book series tie-in Secret Wars. It was Dr. Doom's secret lair. It included some gate mechanisms on the front that you could operate and lock up your foes with. Ah, good times...

16. Cabbage Patch Kids
