John Legend gave an update on his friendship with Kanye West after the two publicly fell out over their differing views on American president, Donald Trump.
Back in 2018, Kanye reactivated his Twitter account and sparked a huge backlash after posting his support for Trump.
"You don't have to agree with Trump but the mob can't make me not love him," he said, acknowledging the backlash he'd received for his views. "We are both dragon energy. He is my brother."
Kanye's political stance appeared to be an awkward point for his wife, Kim Kardashian, who had publicly supported Hilary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.
But the drama kicked up a level when Kanye went on to share private text messages from John Legend, who urged him to rethink his alignment with Trump.
"You're way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for," the text read. "So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump's policies cause, especially to people of color."
When Kanye posted the texts online, John tried to lighten the tone, jokingly promoting his new single.
Meanwhile, Chrissy and Kim joked about still being on for dinner despite the public back and forth.

However, last October, John revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that he and Kanye "were never the closest of friends" and went on to discuss the rapper's views on Trump.
Now, in a recent interview with the Sunday Times, John has spoken of how his friendship is with Kanye today, simply saying: "I just think we're doing our own thing."
"I don't think we're less friends because of the Trump thing," John said. "He's up in Wyoming. I'm here in L.A. We've both got growing families and I no longer have a formal business relationship with him as an artist, so I think it's just part of the natural cycle of life."
"Obviously we disagreed on the Trump thing and we still do apparently," John continued, appearing to reference Kanye's recent comments in an interview with GQ.
"He's also in a different place musically," John concluded. "He's doing gospel music. That's what he's focused on right now, designing his clothes, so we're in different places."
