If you're looking for a drama that encompasses scary (and worryingly accurate) visions of the future – Years and Years is for you. It follows a British family over the course of 15 years. Over that time we see them struggle with the uncertain world that is somewhat crumbling around them. We see them adapt and have to deal with political, economic, and technological advances and the good, bad, and scary challenged that come alongside them.

2. Inside No. 9

BBC Two

Like Black Mirror, no two episodes of Inside No 9 are quite the same – something that will keep you on your toes whenever you begin a new one. The anthology series is full of twists and turns, so much so that sometimes the lack of a twist is a twist in itself. Each episode is set inside some sort of 'number nine' room, dorm, train carriage, or apartment, where all manner of events unfold.

3. Search Party

TBS / HBO Max

When a former college acquaintance goes missing, a group of friends get caught up in trying to investigate the disappearance. They're led by Dory, who's been a bit of a pushover her whole life and is stepping up to get into this mystery.

It's a bit more on the comedy side but certainly falls in the "dark comedy" category, and the mystery element also makes Search Party an intriguing watch.

4. The Twilight Zone

You could definitely say that Black Mirror is in the mould of The Twilight Zone. The anthology series covers the creepy, the funny, and the mysterious in its various different tales. Some are notably darker than others, but the twists and turns make it a sure-fire bet for any Black Mirror fans.

5. Dark

If it's a mystery with a bit of sci-fi you're after, then look no further. Dark is an incredible show which will have you questioning every twist and turn it takes and trying to figure out all the little connections that lay beneath. It follows a few individuals from a small town in Germany and the seemingly unexplainable and, of course, dark things that begin happening to them.

6. Severance

Apple TV+

Once you start Severance you'll find it very difficult to stop. We follow Mark, who leads a team of office workers. The thing is, the office workers have had their brains divided between themselves inside the office and their lives outside – meaning neither part of themselves know what they do inside or outside of the office. As a mystery unfolds, we see the struggle to discover the truth about their jobs.

7. Room 104

HBO

Similar to Inside No. 9, this anthology series all takes place in one room. It's set in one room of an American roadside motel, and each episode shows a different character and follows a different genre. Some are horror, some more thrilling, and some comedy, but you'll often be on edge thinking "what's going to happen?"

8. Russian Doll

Netflix

Nadia is the guest of honour at her 36th birthday party in New York. The only problem is that she's caught in what seems to be a time loop, and cannot escape from this birthday party. Dying over and over again and restarting in the same place. Trying to figure out what's happening to her, Nadia meets someone who is going through the same experience. 

It's a fun watch with equal parts comedy and drama!

9. Alice in Borderland

Netflix

Arisu, a video game obsessive, finds himself in a peculiar, emptied-out version of Tokyo. He and his friends must complete a series of dangerous tasks in order to survive. 

It's a sci-fi drama series with some seriously binge-able qualities!

10. Love, Death + Robots

Netflix

This wild animated anthology series also travels all around the genres. It tells individual tales spanning alternate histories, apocalypses, and more. From sci-fi and fantasy to comedy and thriller, it really does have a bit of everything tied together with some excellent animation.

11. Utopia

Channel 4

This series follows a group of online fanatics who believe that a graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments had predicted some major disastrous epidemics in the past. As they endeavour to track down an unpublished sequel, which may predict a future epidemic, they attract the attention of a secret organization. 

It's chaotic, wonderfully weird, and fascinating. While it didn't get renewed for a third season (I'm still bitter), it's still worth a watch.

12. Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams

Amazon Prime Video / Channel 4

If you're into your sci-fi, you'll know the work of Phillip K. Dick. Well, Electric Dreams is very much inspired by his work and travels through the worlds of his creation that embody all things unimaginable. Each episode is stand-alone and inspired by a different work of the sci-fi behemoth.

13. Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities

Packed within these eight horror tales is the impeccable imagery that Guillermo del Toro never fails to bring. Each bizarre horrific episode is it's own nightmare, brilliantly put together by del Toro and other huge names in the horror scene – it's definitely worth a watch.

14. Altered Carbon

Netflix

In this vision of the future, over 300 years to be precise, human consciousness can now be transferred into a body – essentially making life and existence limitless. We meet our protagonist, Takeshi Kovacs, after his mind has been imprisoned for centuries as he's woken up in order to help solve a murder. 

This series has a heavy coating of cyberpunk, and it's a fun watch to seek your teeth into!
