Bitterballen are snacks of breaded meat, which is then fried. Normally eaten with mustard, this is the perfect snack to share with friends while drinking a beer on a terrace!

Stroopwafel, literally translated into syrup waffel, is a very thin cookie, made of two, thin waffels with caramel in the middle. This cookie is perfect to eat with your tea or coffee. Pro Tip: Let them sit above your coffee or tea cup in order to have the caramel melt a little bit!

The Dutch are known for having the best fries in the world. Served in paper cones, as seen in the picture, and then some mayonnaise above. In Amsterdam, you will find people standing in line outside the best fries shop. This is a typical snack after a night out with friends, to eat while on your way home.

If you like licorice, drop is the candy for you! The Dutch love this aniseed-flavored candy, and they are the largest consumers of licorice world wide. Typically, a bag of this candy is kept in the car to eat as a snack.

These tiny, spaceship-shaped pancakes are normally served with butter and powdered sugar. They are so popular, new pans were made to especially to cook them! It's hard to eat one of these without a smile on your face.

Poffertjes

Hagelslag refers to the chocolate sprinkles in the picture above. Dutch children normally eat hagelslag on toast with butter as breakfast or an after school snack. Yes, that's right, the Dutch eat chocolate sprinkles for breakfast!
