16 Marvel Movies That Definitely Forgot To Do Their Homework

Aside from, like, the flying hammers and stuff.

1. In Ant-Man, the Pym particle controls size, not weight.

It's said in Ant-Man that the reason objects can get smaller and larger is because the Pym particle can increase and decrease space at the atomic level. This, however, would keep any object that is shrunken or enlarged the same weight. Therefore, Scott Lang would crush an ant instead of ride on it, and Thomas the Tank Engine wouldn't be able to wreck a police car because these objects would maintain the weight they had at their normal size.

2. Doctor Strange ignores basic surgical protocol at the beginning of his movie.

You'd think as a neurosurgeon, Doctor Strange would know to put his mask on before washing his hands. However, in his first scene of the movie, he does the exact opposite, contaminating his hands before starting surgery.

3. In Iron Man 3, the rescue scene from Air Force One is near impossible.

As soon as the 13 passengers fell out of the plane, they would've blacked out due to the lack of oxygen. Even if they were coherent, these people would've been falling at a rate of 120 mph, and they would've still have an extremely hard time seeing their targets and chaining up with them.

4. The flag in Captain America: The First Avenger hadn't been invented yet.

In the credits, there is a photo of a flag wrapped around a cannon. This flag has 50 stars. However, during WWII, Hawaii and Alaska had not become states yet. Hawaii and Alaska were both added in 1959, therefore WWII-era flags had 48 stars instead of 50.

5. Thor was given the wrong directions in Thor: The Dark World.

In Thor: The Dark World, there is a scene where the hero boards the London Underground at Charing Cross and asks a fellow passenger how to get to Greenwich. She says that all he needs to do is take the train three stops. However, there are two different lines that go through Charing Cross. If he was on the Bakerloo line and took the train three stops, he'd end up at Regent's Park or Lambeth North depending on which way he'd take it. If he was taking the other line, the Northern line, he'd end up at Kennington or Goodge Street. None of these stops are close to Greenwich.

6. Ebony Maw would not have died instantly in Infinity War.

Assuming he breathes oxygen like we do (which we can considering Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man can all breathe on his ship without any use of an additional apparatus), Ebony Maw would have most likely died from running out of oxygen, which would've taken about 90 seconds after he'd been sucked into space. Space is cold and he definitely would've lost body heat, just not nearly as fast as he'd lose oxygen.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 shows a nuclear power plant that hadn't been built yet.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ego's flashback put himself and Peter's mother in the 1980 version of Missouri. The power plant in the background hadn't been built yet. The only power plant in Missouri is the Callaway Nuclear Generating Station and it wasn't built until 1984.

8. Peter Quill's mix tapes were ahead of their time...literally.

Peter's mom gave him Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and Awesome Mix Vol. 2 before she died and he was abducted by Yondu in the late 1980s. However, she makes the cassette tapes on TDK CDing 2 tapes, which weren't released until 2001.

9. The giant microscopic animals Hank Pym sees in the Quantum Realm have no business being there.

When Pym travels through the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp, tardigrades are seen about to eat his ship. Tardigrades are real, but they're usually found in damp areas or water. The other problem with the tardigrades in that scene is that they feed from a stylet. Their diet usually consists of liquids from plant and animal cells, so they probably wouldn't have been interested in Pym's ship.

10. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers is given a ribbon that he wasn't entitled to.

Captain America can be seen wearing a yellow American Defense Ribbon, which was awarded to those who served in WWII between September 8, 1939 and December 7, 1941, before the United States formally entered the war. Steve Rogers joined the war well after the United States was formally involved and would therefore not qualify for this honor.

11. Erik Killmonger must've lied about his credentials in Black Panther.

It's possible considering that Killmonger wasn't the raddest of dudes, but he says in the movie that he graduated from Annapolis when he was 19. This refers to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, which you can only enroll in if you're 17 years of age or older, and you can't graduate from their four-year program early.

12. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, nobody is cold when they should be.

Ultron elevates Sokovia far above 18,000 feet. The air at that altitude, aside from being very very thin, would be unbelievably cold (-5.2°F), yet nobody's breath is seen during any of the scenes where Sokovia rises or the Avengers are evacuating civilians.

13. In Iron Man, the newspaper clipping that they showed during Stark's award ceremony has a misprint.

The date on the top of the paper clipping clearly states that the article was written on Friday December 17, 1991. However, December 17, 1991 was a Tuesday.

14. The Vulture's crew is drinking the wrong beer in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

After they don't get the bid to clean up the Battle of New York (which took place canonically in 2012 during The Avengers), Adrian Toomes and his crew are drinking and watching the news. The bottle on the table is a Coors Banquet stubby bottle, which didn't get re-released until a full year later in June of 2013.

15. In Iron Man 3, Maya Hanson threatens to inject herself with a liter of Extremis.

Marvel

She states that she's going to inject herself with 1200cc of Extremis. One thousand cc is one liter, meaning she was holding a syringe while saying she was about to inject, essentially, 1.2 liters into herself. The average syringe holds anywhere from .25 ml to 450 ml. Even on the large end of the scale, she would need to fill her syringe and inject herself three different times to reach 1200cc because it's obvious that the one she's holding to her neck can't hold a liter.

16. And Stan Lee is improperly dressed in his Captain America cameo.
