No matter how cool BB-8 looks, scientists are reportedly unimpressed with the design, stating that R2-D2 and C-3PO are the most plausible of the fandom's drones. NASA has even said C-3PO might function in space...but BB-8? Not so much.

Both Ben Schwartz (Parks & Recreation) and Bill Hader (SNL) were voice consultants for BB-8's mechanical voice. In an interview, Hader said that the voice was created using "this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8's voice."

It Got A Standing Ovation Its Last Day On Set.

According to Matthew Denton, electronic design and development supervisor for BB-8, the cast and crew were so fond of it that they "would sort of chirp at it as we carried it past. On its last day on set, it wrapped like an actor would and got a round of applause. That’s certainly never happened to one of our robots before."
