Speaking In Hashtags

The New Republic's John McWhorter argues that Twitter's linguistic influence is far "less insidious than it seems," as cringeworthy as hashtag colloquialisms may be. The verbal hashtag trend simply follows a long line of the written word permeating into spoken conversation; communication that reflects a more informal era of writing and the ubiquity of Twitter.
