A Letter To The Woman Who Will Marry My First Love

I promise not to speak up when the preacher asks if anyone objects.

Because when you miss out on love you need to ensure that no one else does

To the luckiest girl I know,

I do not know where to begin but I am writing to tell you how lucky you are. You are marrying the most spectacular person that I have had the pleasure of meeting and the pleasure of falling in love with. The man you call the love of your life was once and still is that man to me and to be honest I do not think I will ever fall out of love with him. I will not try to steal him from you but I will be jealous of you. He was the first boy that I ever kissed, the first boy I ever danced with and the first boy I fell in love with; all of that happened many years ago but it is something a girl does not forget.

Let me tell you why I think you are so lucky, you are with the most compassionate and caring person I have ever met in my life. The first time I held his hand we were 13 but he had hands like my dad; covered in calluses and rough like sandpaper. When I asked how such a young boy had these strong aged hands he replied by saying, "I wanted to buy you a gift for Valentine's Day so I have been doing yard work and other manual labor for the last month." I reread that sentence as I type it and wonder how I ever let such a beautiful person go.

As you plan to marry him and promise your life to him, I have some promises to share with you. I promise that his soul is truly beautiful inside and out; I have seen him defend those that need it, speak up to protect those that cannot protect themselves and the way he is with children will melt the coldest of hearts. I promise you that his love is truly unconditional, I broke up with him numerous times but he never stopped being a great friend. You may wonder why I broke up with him, why I would speak so highly of a man that I have ended several relationships with, well it is because I was stupid. So now that you have him do not ever let him go. I promise you that he will never stop trying to provide the perfect life for you and your family, at thirteen he worked so hard to provide me with a Valentine's Day present, now that he is older I can ensure that he will work a hundred times harder to do the same for you. I promise you that at times you will fight but he will never hold anything against you. I promise that your family and friends will love him and he will love them in return. I promise he will be the best father and husband that your family could ask for. And lastly I promise that in marrying him you are making the best decision of your life.

Please promise me that you will give him all your love, that you will protect him and nurture him. Please promise me that you will never break his heart because I guarantee that seeing him heartbroken will hurt you more than you have ever hurt. Please promise me that you will never forget how lucky you are and to treat him like a King because to him you are the Queen of his world.

Now go out there and marry that wonderful man and I promise I will not stand up and speak when the preacher asks if anyone objects.

    Yours Truly,

    The second luckiest girl
