I Tried Wearing Lipstick For Four Days To See If It Was Worth It

Does lipstick really enhance your outfit? Is it worth the hassle? I tried to find out.

    Is Lipstick Worth It?

    Day 1

I kept things casual the first day to ease into the transformation. The color goes on bright and strong, but once you smack your lips, the color's quite tame. I worried the orange lip may be too much with an orange tank top, but I was pleased with the look. It definitely gave an extra "oomph" to the outfit.

A good quality lipstick, I didn't have to reapply the Too Faced more than once. It settled on my lips but not in a way that made them feel dry. There were some marks on my water bottle and I had to consciously not smear my face with my napkin at lunch. But all in all, a pretty manageable day.

    Day 2

Revlon's Crush makes me feel so badass. I feel like I transformed when I put it on. So yes, immediate proof that lipstick can empower you!

I reapplied it several times throughout the day, mostly to ensure the color stayed as dark and vibrant as I wanted. This means I was extra careful about eating and drinking, but it was extra worth it. I think I just need one of those black 90's chokers to go with it, yeah?

    Day 3

I still don't feel like the pic does the color justice. This is as classic red as lipstick can be. I also strongly feel it's essential this color is in matte, and not a creamy gloss. If you've ever wanted to look like old Hollywood, here's the color for you. Someday I'll do my hair in pin up rolls with this schtuff and it'll be great.

    Day 4

I really like when this bright purple has a touch of red behind it. It gives almost a cartoon-y purple that I love.

This is the most high-maintenance of lipsticks, but only because it requires a careful blending to get the desired color when you reapply. I had a mini panic attack when I accidently wiped food from my mouth with my hand, but no lipstick got smeared on my face, only my hand. Whew!

    What I Learned

I definitely thought lipstick was some kind of villain when I started. But it wasn't difficult at all. I just had to remember to pack a hand mirror with me so I could reapply on the go. The hand mirror was also less embarrassing for me to use than my phone (covert selfies are the worst selfies) when I wanted to check on smears or if I'd gotten lipstick on my teeth.

After this experience, I really want to incorporate lipstick into my daily makeup routine! Even if it's a more subtle shade on some days, I felt extra special with color on my lips. And if it makes me feel special, I shouldn't just save it for special occasions!

Guess it's time to go shopping and pick out more fun colors to try!
