Response to How Do You Deal With Anxiety In College?:
Definitely tap in to all of the resources available to you on your campus. There is no shame in visiting the counseling and they are there to help. I found it very helpful to bounce my over-zealous anxious thoughts off another person who was completely objective to my situation. Find a person to confide in. Chances are someone close to you has experienced something very similar and I found it very helpful to have a person to “vent” all my anxious thoughts to. Another person can really help you rationalize situations that seem out of control to you. Do some exercise. I know how hard getting to the red center can be, but taking a yoga class 1-2 per week really helped me unwind and take a step back from my overactive brain. Lastly, after visiting the counseling center, my therapist recommended an interactive work book that teaches coping skills. I find that it really helps to put everything into perspective when it’s written out in front of you and you’re given solutions on the next page. It’s called “The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook: Practical DBT Exercises for Learning Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation.” For $13 on Amazon, I’d say my peace of mind was well worth it.
