[VIDEO] CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISTS PROTEST DUBUQUE VIGIL FOR ORLANDO VICTIMS

On Sunday, around 200 Dubuquers attended a candlelight vigil to mourn the victims of the tragic shooting in Orlando. The event, which took place in Washington Square Park in Dubuque, was organized by LGBTQ groups and other members of the community. Each of the 49 victims were honored with a sign that displayed their picture and a brief summary of their life. A rainbow flag was displayed prominently at the top of the park’s gazebo, as vigil-goers lit candles, talked, and supported one another through this difficult time.

The event wasn't without controversy, however.

Off to the side of the park, a small crowd formed around two protesters who stood holding large signs and preaching the bible while the ceremony went on in the background. They referred to the victims as "sodomites" and rebuked passing vigil-goers for supporting what they called "perverted actions."

Several people confronted the protesters. Some stood beside them, holding make-shift signs that advised people to stay away. Others stood silently in front of the protesters, blocking their view of the vigil. Eventually, event organizers approached the small crowd and advised those arguing with the protesters not to bother.
