11 Things You Oughta Know About The Alanis Morissette Musical

Yes, this is a real thing. No, it's not ironic.

    1. Well, first things first: Yes, there is an actual Jagged Little Pill musical based on Alanis Morissette's famous album of the same name.

    2. It is currently playing at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and will end its run July 15.

    3. There's no official word yet on if it will come to Broadway in New York, BUT it seems inevitable.

    4. The musical is lead by a trio of women: directed by Diane Paulus (Waitress), book by Diablo Cody (Juno) and lyrics by Alanis Morissette (obviously lol).

    5. The entire show is VERY relevant to 2018. Like, things that happened earlier this year are referenced in the show.

    6. The story is about a seemingly perfect suburban family who is anything but, and it explores dark and current societal themes.

    7. The musical has many Jagged Little Pill songs, but also some other Morissette hits.

    8. AND there are two new songs, which help illustrate the plot.

    9. "You Oughta Know" (sung by Lauren Patten) is a fucking SHOWSTOPPER and there is always a mid-show standing ovation for it.

    10. The show deals with a lot of teen angst, and is reminiscent of Dear Evan Hansen and Next To Normal.

    11. Basically, this is a musical you never knew you needed.
