Books into movies - what to read and watch this fall

Picking the next read is tough with all the selection available. How about choosing based on what you can relax watching in the months in the comfort of your nearby cinema?

Reading has been one of my favorite pastimes since I learned the skill. So far, I've read about 40 books this year. There are still several on my to-read list, including a few of these titles that will be released as movies this fall season. Usually, the book tends to be better than the movie in my opinion.

World Premiere on September 19: The Maze Runner

    Book by James Dashner.

Thomas wakes up in an elevator. He is confined to a space with other teen boys, all suffering from amnesia, surrounded by a maze nobody has been able to conquer. Strange events follow, and Thomas soon realizes he is fighting for survival.

This novel was a light, easy read. It's the first part of a trilogy, and I am planning to read the sequels at some point. Clearly, it wasn't as hooking as the Hunger Games or the Divergent trilogies.

World Premiere on October 3: Gone Girl

    Book by Gillian Flynn.

I have yet to read this book, but the global praise for it has been overwhelming. It is probably one of the most eagerly awaited films to open this fall. This novel is high on my to-read list!

Gone Girl tells the story of a husband whose wife disappears. He finds himself the main suspect, and that his marriage may not have been how he thought it was.

World Premiere on November 21: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

    Book by Suzanne Collins.

Katniss Everdeen is caught up in a revolution. The original work is a single book, but it has been divided to make two feature films. Personally, I thought the first novel was the crown of this series. This last part was my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, the whole series was addictive and entertaining, but for me, the actual Hunger Games were what made these books a phenomenon. Not the revolution. The most interesting topic in this book is probably Katniss having to choose between her two guys, Gale and Peeta.

World Premiere on December 5: Wild

    Book by Cheryl Strayed.

In an autobiographical story, Cheryl Strayed describes her healing journey hiking over 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave desert all the way to Washington State. Now this book is coming to cinemas with Reese Witherspoon playing the lead.

World Premiere on January 2015: Unbroken

    Book by Laura Hillenbrand.

Laura Hillenbrand is most famous for her novel "Seabiscuit" that has won her numerous awards. This story has Olympic hopeful Louis Zamperini at its center. The events take place during WWII. After his plane crashes into the Pacific, Zamperini must survive a journey of thousands of miles on the open ocean teeming with sharks. Naturally, he is also dealing with starvation, and he is within enemy territory during war.

I hope you found something that piqued your interest! Fall season is soon upon us, and what would be nicer than reading a book on the sofa, wrapped up in blankets while sipping a nice, hot beverage! Once I finish my current read (Sepulchre by Kate Mosse) I'll be picking up Gone Girl.
