    25 Signs You're A Military Brat

    "Where are you from?" "Uhhh..."

    1. When people ask, "Where are you from?" and it's the most difficult part about meeting new people.

    2. But meeting new people is a breeze because you've had to do it all your life every time you moved to a new country/city/county.

    3. It's totally normal to call your friends by their last names or an incredibly offensive name that's also an in-joke.

    4. You have immediate respect for anyone in uniform.

    5. BFBS was probably your TV/radio provider whilst you were abroad or at some point growing up.

    6. Finding it really difficult to hold your tongue when people insult the Armed Forces in front of you.

    7. And having people talk about past/present conflicts in front of you without asking you if you know anyone/have family who served in them.

    8. All your closest childhood friends probably live somewhere either abroad or halfway across the country.

    9. The NAAFI was probably your local shop.

    10. You know what one of these is/have written one yourself.

    11. Packing to go anywhere is an absolute breeze.

    12. You spent a lot of your life locked in a military base at night.

    13. Your teacher was also your neighbour, and her husband just happened to serve under your parent. Or some elaborate connection.

    14. You never bothered to memorize your home telephone number. It changed too frequently for you to keep up.

    15. You refer to non-work/non-mess appropriate clothes as “civvies.” And trying to find mess appropriate clothes is a nightmare.

    16. "Be there at 1400" means be there by 1355.

    17. Watching other kids go through exciting fashion statements/phases and remembering how taboo that was at home.

    18. Phrases like "Bravo Zulu" and "0-Dark-Thirty" make perfect sense to you.

    19. Coming back from living/being abroad for a while and feeling like you've missed everything.

    20. People calling you "posh" when you tell them/say anything about your past.

    21. You have an instant connection with other Military Brats.

    22. Your list of where your family friends/school friends are from is incredibly diverse.

    23. Going back to school for term time, and coming back during the holidays to find everything has changed among your friendship groups.

    24. You've tried every mess game/drinking game under the sun.

    25. You might not have understood your parent's career choice as a kid, but you respect the hell out of it now.

    Bonus point: You're a military brat if you noticed Tom Cruise in uniform, outside with no hat, and having a non-regulation haircut in Top Gun.
