This new trailer finally revealed Christian Bale as the film's antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher, and he looks straight-up terrifying!!! Bale has been known to physically transform himself for his roles, but we've never seen him quite like this.

Gorr is seen in the trailer taking up a mysterious sword in his quest to eradicate all divinity in the universe, causing him to encounter Thor in a clash for the cosmos. In the comics, this weapon is called "All-Black the Necrosword," which was forged by the symbiote god, Knull, to wipe out the Celestials. It even sliced off the head of a Celestial that would end up becoming "Knowhere."

After a decade of waiting, Bale returns to the superhero genre after his run as Batman in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. But this is the first time anyone has seen him with any actual superpowers.

Gorr was first introduced in Jason Aaron's run of comics, Thor: God of Thunder. Aaron also introduced Jane Foster as "Mighty Thor" in Thor Vol. 4, with both storylines serving as inspirations for Waititi's latest film. The film even took this shot of one of Gorr's divine victims straight from Aaron's comic!

When speaking to Associated Press, Waititi said, "In my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel's ever had in Christian Bale." That's high praise.

Though there were initial doubts about the film's depiction of Gorr when the character's action figure was leaked to the public, fans have taken to social media to share their shock and awe at Bale as the God Butcher.
