Literature And How It Can Make The World A Better Place

Literature has been in society for thousands of years, helping ancient man communicate thoughts and ideas with one another. It can make us feel emotions from its text, like joy and sadness. Great literature doesn't just make our feelings from the inside change but it can also make our feelings from the outside change as well, for example on parts that make you sad you will most likely cry, on parts that make you scared you will feel compelled to be terrified, getting goosebumps throughout your body. Emotions are a big part of what makes us human and literature can aid us in this, by making us feel them more often and helping us improve upon them, in which will make us better people. Three books and one play that helped inspire me in life and that I am sure will also help the world are We Share Everything by Robert Munsch, The Fourth Stall by Chris Rylander, Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We Share Everything

The first book that helped inspire me in my life was We Share Everything. This picture book was written by Robert Munsch, who was my favourite author as a little kid. His books helped me get through my early years of elementary school as it made school more fun and easy for me and made me actually want to go to school so my reading buddy could read me more Robert Munsch books. One book in particular that I really liked the most out of all of his books was We Share Everything. This book is about two kids, Jeremiah and Amanda who fight over their toys at school. But at the end they resolve this feud and end up becoming friends. This book appealed to me as a kid because I could relate to it. As a kid I did not like to share with my brother but after reading that book it changed that habit I had. This book can help the world in the same way it has helped me. Teaching you how to share and how to be nicer to one another, something are world need more of. So if kids at an early age can read this book, it can get them to share and be friends with one another.

The Fourth Stall

The second book in my life that helped inspire me was The Fourth Stall. This book was written by Chris Rylander my second favourite author so far in my life, first being Eric Walters. I was introduced to this book in my grade five year of elementary school. This was read to me and my class by my teacher, once a day. It was truly amazing as whenever we read the book, me and my class would become completely silent and would be very calm. That saying something, as my class was usually very noisy, the book was just so interesting to all of us. This book really grabbed my attention and this is at a time in my life where I wasn't really interested into books. This book caught my interest because of it's plot and characters and also this book was very funny as well. This book can help the world become a better place, by bringing people together and making them have a good laugh with each other. This book can also really help you find the character that you are in your life, as their are many different and unique characters in this book that can maybe help yourself find your path in life.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

The third book in my life that helped inspire me was The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. This book was written by John Boyne, who is a UK author. I read this book in my last year of elementary school which was grade 8. After reading this book, it opened eyes to many different things in life. It showed me a perspective into one of humanity's darkest eras of time and what horrors were being conducted. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is about a boy named Bruno who meets a young jewish boy named Shmuel, a prisoner of Auschwitz. After disguising himself as a prisoner in striped pyjamas, Bruno is killed along with Shmuel when they are herded into the gas chamber. This book got me really sad and sick to my stomach especially at the ending. This book shows that even in a time of great ethnic barriers, two can turn a blind eye to their differences and become friends. This book can greatly help the world, as it can show an example for people to get by their differences with one another, like ethnicity and religion.

Romeo and Juliet

A play that helped inspire me in my life was Romeo and Juliet. This play was written by the most famous writer of all time, William Shakespeare. I read this play in my first year of high school. This play was very different then anything I have ever read before. Even though it was still English It was still hard to read for the first time and it had a lot of words I have never heard of before.The play Romeo and Juliet, which is set in Verona is a story about a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families. This feud causes tragic results for the main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet. After reading this book, it kind of made me feel more sophisticated for getting through all of it, as the play made me think outside of the box to understand all of its interesting and complicated ideas it had to offer throughout the story. This play can make the world a better place, by showing people the nature of true love, as people who still go by arranged marriages can maybe learn to find someone who they truly love.

Conclusion

All of these works have played a pivotal role in who I am as person today, each being their own puzzle piece, completing me as a person. These work can do the same to the world as they have done to me; each being able to contribute to the world in their own ways.
