Photographer David Jay has created the Unknown Photo Series which features a number of soldiers who have experienced serious and upsetting injuries as a consequence of war.
Jay says that the intention of his black and white series is to show "things we aren't supposed to look at".
It's a confronting look into everyday battles the soldiers now face, including physical disabilities, chronic pain and PTSD.
It took Jay three years to find the ex-soliders to feature in his portraits, all of whom fought in Afghanistan or Iraq.
The image series is not supposed to be a political statement, Jay says, just a way to portray the emotional and physical battle that these soliders went through.
By creating this series, Jay believes he has given light to the courageousness of those involved, as well as showing the very serious and life-changing consequences of war.
