Tell Us What You Wish People Understood About Suicide And Suicidal Ideation

Because we should be talking more.

Suicide and suicidal thoughts and feelings are difficult to talk about and even more difficult to understand, especially if you don't have personal experience with it.

And when there's a high-profile suicide in the news and conversation about it spikes, it becomes clear that people still have a lot of misconceptions about suicide and suicidal ideation.

So if you have dealt with suicidal ideation in the past or currently do, we want to know what you wish people understood about it.

Maybe you want people to know that passing on numbers to suicide hotlines isn't always a very helpful response.

Or maybe you wish people were better educated about chronic or passive suicidal ideation, not just active suicide risk.

Maybe you want to clear up some harmful stereotypes.

Or maybe you want people to understand what it actually feels like to have suicidal thoughts regularly.

Tell us: What do you wish people knew about suicide and suicidal thoughts and feelings?

What misconceptions and myths do you want to clear up? What do you wish people talked about when they talked about suicide? What do you wish people understood? How can people actually be supportive? Whatever you want to share is welcome.

Email us at suicidestories@buzzfeed.com and your response could be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed post.
