1. Mali's age poses a risk to her successful transfer.

Fact: Every year, around the world, elephants are transported by truck, plane, and train. There is an extensive record of successful elephant transports of animals who are Mali's age and older—it is done all the time by circuses, zoos, and sanctuaries. Oh yah, and elephants can live to 70 years or older.

2. Mali has become adjusted to her environment at the zoo.

Fact: Animals retain their natural drives and instincts, even after years or decades in captivity. Duh.

3. Mali considers her keepers to be her family.

Fact: Scientific studies have revealed that socialization with others of their own kind is essential to the well-being of female elephants. LOL.

4. Mali has never been administered medication other than topical ointments and laxatives, so adequate veterinary care or other medications could pose a risk to her health.

Fact: Wait, do we even need to refute this?

5. Cleaning of Mali's enclosure and feet is sufficient preventive foot care.

Fact: Foot infections and arthritis are the leading causes of death among captive elephants, which is why every reputable zoo in the world offers a preventive foot-care program that includes monitoring the thickness of foot pads, trimming nails and cuticles, and filing nails.

6. Mali will be sedated during transport.

Fact: Elephant veterinarians recommend that animals not be given sedatives during transport. No one knows why the Manila Zoo keeps bringing this up.

7. Mali's fate is not certain at a sanctuary.

Fact: As a result of a lack of improper care at the Manila Zoo, Mali has been plagued with painful foot problems. The zoo has already demonstrated that its veterinarians lack the necessary experience and expertise in caring for elephants. If left at the zoo, it's obvious she will continue to suffer.
