Canberra Could Be Getting A Cheeky Name Change, All Thanks To Uber Eats

Move over Hunter Valley wineries, it's Canberra's time to shine.

Well, well, well Canberra is on the road to actually becoming interesting — and it's all thanks to a petition to see our great capital renamed.

And the new name that's on the table? Well, drum roll please...CanBEERa

To celebrate the growth of the craft beer industry in Australia and the launch of Uber Eats' alcohol delivery service in Canberra, they're urging Aussies — brew loving or not — to get behind this cause and sign this very worthy petition.

This will be presented to Parliament on Friday, August 4, 2023 — aka, National Beer Day.

"Goulburn might have the Big Merino and Coffs the Big Banana, but nobody has ever had a town named after their most popular export — why can’t CanBEERa be the first?" said Lucas Groeneveld, Regional General Manager Retail at Uber Eats ANZ.

The announcement of this potential new name was made by a dashingly dressed town crier. He stood in front of Parliament House to officially call upon Canberrans to come forth and support the cause.

A sign saying "Welcome to CanBEERa" has also been placed at one of the road entrances to the ACT to let incoming visitors know that it is "The Nation's Capital (of beer)."

If you're from NSW, VIC or QLD and feel a little left out, don't worry, you'll get to have some fun too.
