Netflix Is Releasing A New Adaptation Of 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' In 2016

Lemony Snicket's books will receive new life as a Netflix show.

Recently, without much fanfare, Netflix officially announced that they were adapting Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Following Netflix's recent upsurge in innovative content and popularity, with off-kilter shows such as Grace & Frankie, Orange Is The New Black, and Sense8, Netflix announced in December that they were considering re-adapting the children books A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The book series, written by Lemony Snicket, were first published in 1999 and spanned seven books which chronicled the misadventures of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire.

The orphaned siblings encountered ghastly situations while pursued by the ghoulish Count Olaf. By the time the series ended in the 2000s, the book series had gained massive popularity and critical acclaim.

The series was only adapted once, which was ten years ago.

"After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books."

Tumblr is already reacting well to the news:

Some even have strong opinions of who should be cast:
