Long Beach Rocky Horror Reacts to WBC

What happens when the Westboro Baptist Church tries to spread their message of hate at a Gay Pride Parade?

Long Beach Rocky Horror was marching in the Long Beach Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade on May 18th, when they encountered members of a church group spreading their message of hate and protesting the event. "We all just ran at them at once as soon as we saw them. It was wonderful!" said Samantha Acampora, Stage Director for the cast, "It was a massive wonderful mile-long show of love and support and joy, with these six or so idiots near the beginning in a tiny blocked off box."

"We don't approve of any hate groups, especially in our city. We wanted to peacefully drown them out, and let them know that they are not welcome to spread any sort of hate here," said Andrew Davey, one of the Cast Leaders at Long Beach Rocky Horror.

"What happens when you come to our city and try to preach hate? We take FABULOUS pictures blocking you out!" said Leif Malmsten, the other Cast Leader, in a post on Long Beach Rocky Horror's Facebook page.

Long Beach Rocky Horror has been performing a weekly showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a "shadow cast" for over 26 years; they currently perform at the Art Theatre in Downtown Long Beach.
