Delhi: Visuals of damaged car from AAP-BJP clash earlier in the evening

The clash n the Tughlakabad area of South Delh reportedly broke out after a heated debate between both parties took place on a Hindi TV news channel.

The car of an AAP Tughlakabad assembly poll candidate, Sahi Ram, was set on fire as the AAP supporters clashed with BJP activists, DNA India reported.

"During the shoot, heated argument ensued between the two groups which turned into a scuffle and someone set Sahi Ram's car on fire," a senior police official told DNA. "We are probing the incident."

AAP alleged that the activists involved in the attack were loyal to BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, according to DNA.

"It is shocking that a mob led by the MP's nephew attacked the AAP volunteers in broad daylight when a TV news channel was conducting a debate in the DDA park at Tuglakabad," AAP said in a statement.

Bidhuri, however, suggested that it was the AAP supporters that started the violence, denying the allegations that his supporters were even involved in the clash. "AAP workers set the car on fire to blame BJP. AAP workers started the clash," Bidhuri said, claiming a number of BJP workers were injured in the clash.

Police have stated that they are investigating the clash and that there isn't sufficient information to determine who set the car ablaze.

AAP leader Ashutosh has accused the Delhi police of not taking any action against the incident because of pressure from the BJP.

"The violence unleashed by BJP on AAP volunteers is a clear indication that it wants to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the national capital ahead of the assembly elections," he told DNA.

The AAP claimed that 10 volunteers had to receive treatment for their injuries.

When questioned about the AAP's allegation, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay was sceptical. "I am not aware of the facts," he said. "But what I am saying is that generally AAP people are desperate, the way they try to instigate people. I will want to ask the people of my party that violence has no place in party politics and we should not indulge in any act of desperation."

Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party released this statement on his official Facebook page:

BJP workers beat up our volunteers mercilessly and burnt our car in Tughlakabad area in delhi. This shows BJP is losing and is getting desperate. But they shud realize that such violence will only increase their margin of defeat.

BJP saying that our vol beat themselves up so mercilessly that they had to be admitted to trauma centre. Why? To defame BJP. Is this believable?
