Why Campus Rape Should Impact Where You Apply
Twenty-Eight out of the Top 30 "Best Universities" in U.S. News & World Report's 2015 rankings are under federal investigation for their handling of sexual assault - yes, even the Ivies.
Andrea L. Pino is a co-founder of End Rape on Campus, a survivor-run organization that provides direct services to survivors of campus sexual violence. Andrea attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in Political Science and English, and pursued research around the policy framing of Title IX, and campus violence. Andrea filed a Federal Complaint with the Department of Education against UNC alongside four other women in January 2013, which upon investigation received national media attention. Her activism has been featured on front page of the New York Times, CNN, Good Morning America, The Melissa Harris-Perry Show, and countless other media sources. Working with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, she helped advise the writing of the Bi-Partisan Campus Safety and Accountability Act, which is pending floor time. She lives in Los Angeles, California, where she is working to perfect her coffee palate and regain her resistance to everlasting summer.
